Come on Swindon. Decent sized club, good manager. Should have too much for football's equivalent of 'Half Priced Chocs and Crisps'
Shit on the Vale 👍

Sitting here and I’m just wondering if that lot would wish us well in a promotion battle…….seeing them lose in the play off final would be nice.

If anybody on here has extended family who support that lot, they would probably understand that it gets very tiresome after a couple of decades no matter how much you play ‘the bigger person’ role.

It’s a huge result for them today. Realistically I think they knew promotion was already gone given the fixtures, but a defeat today in one of their toughest games of the season would’ve meant missing the playoffs given other results. To go there and not only avoid defeat but win means they’re now going into the playoffs with much better morale which has got to be worth something. It’s never quite 25% chance for each team is it. I’d say today means they have a greater than 25% chance whereas qualification despite defeat would’ve meant less than 25% IMO. Also the 2nd leg is at VP so it’s like a big FA Cup tie at home in terms of boosting the coffers + tv revenue. Even if they don’t get promoted it’s all vital money in the bank towards next season’s budget.
Whether you despise them, have a soft spot or anything in between - you can’t help but sense they’re a club destined for an upward trajectory and that this isn’t yet another false dawn. I think it’s inevitable that they’ll find themselves at the right end of league one in the coming years; and potentially might even sneak back into the championship. As I’ve said already, I truly hope we’ve sorted our shit out and aren’t still pottering around in this division if they arrive here. Or at least aren’t still some mid-table dogshit incapable of crushing them if we do meet again in the league.

Just don’t understand the small-mindedness on here. I could give a shit about Vale’s fans. I’m delighted for the club - which in case you hadn’t noticed, is located in the Potteries. Their success can only be good for the city, which I would’ve thought anyone brought up here would applaud.

Can agree they should be knocking on league 2 promotion door next season but 'inevitable they will.. At the right end of league 1...' Sorry, don't see that Staying up in league 1 will be success, maybe mid table What's inevitable is they will bounce between league 1 and 2 for many years Relegation to National League at some point is just as likely as threatening top end of League 1

I was reading there is concerns about their ground. Safety regs reduce the capacity to 14k of which 4k is in the Hamill. They cant open half the mainstand because there is no concourse. Also the Railway stand is on its last legs and needs replacing but there coukd be problems with mineshafts.
Add to that the view is shit due to the low rake in 3 of the stands and the pitch is miles away from the stands
Woukd guess that the owners income would not be enough to cover all this
They were even takking on their message board about a new ground

Went the game today as live locally.
They were very lucky, had one shot half chance all game and scored. Wasted time from the 30th minute…
Not really sure why the ***** went on the pitch at FT only in the playoffs and judging by that performance won’t get to the final.

Sorry, don't see that Staying up in league 1 will be success, maybe mid table What's inevitable is they will bounce between league 1 and 2 for many years Relegation to National League at some point is just as likely as threatening top end of League 1 Hmm maybe I am wrong? I suppose League One is quite a tough league with some massive clubs in their own right, and a lot of massive clubs relative to PVFC. But I do think they're going to get there sooner rather than later and definitely don't see them slipping into the conference under their current ownership. It's actually kind of difficult to get relegated to the conference with only 2 relegation spots. It tends to be reserved for absolute basket case clubs or absolutely miniscule clubs that would view PVFC as "big". As well as this playoff semi they've also got a potential wembley final so potentially 2 huge revenue boosts akin to a plum FA Cup tie even if they don't get promoted - and at that level, promotion winning teams can be built on the back of those sort of steroidal cash injections. But I take your point that becoming a strong team in league one would be them punching well above their weight given their median crowds. Although Wycombe/Burton are arguably smaller clubs who have made it to the championship. Yeovil Town were also in there for a season when we were still in the premiership I believe. Despite the constant presence of some massive clubs in league one, it's also still very possible for smaller ones to get up via the playoffs. But those instances must be the exception to the rule so I see where you're coming from for sure; far more likely they struggle at the wrong end of league one when they get there given their size relative to the division.

If it happened it would be very strange for a club to leave a relatively large ground for a much reduced capacity one. I can't imagine there's many cases of that.
