Re Sparrow, he’s been playing right wing back for 6 months.
He’s a midfielder.

Hopefully we can pay him up? Like one or two others last year. He was woeful today! It will be a miracle to change this squad to top 6 over the summer! This exactly and it’s another situation most fans will say “oh but he’s had 7 players out of contract to deal with”, chuck in the inevitable few injuries and the clown is still in charge when in reality it’s his making we’re in this position. I wouldn’t mind if it’s a plan in motion but it’s make it up as you go along with this idiot in charge, I really do fear the forthcoming season as I wouldn’t bet against us being relegated.

So out of the players O’Neill brought in:
Chester Thompson Brown Fletcher Doughty Fox Mikel Surridge Duhaney Wilmot Vrancic Bonham Jagielka Baker
Plus a load of loanees
Only Thompson, Jagielka, Wilmot, Brown and Baker are worth keeping.
He’s brought in his own deadwood which we now need to get rid of too. (Or have already moved on)
Woeful.

This coming season is a bit different though, because we haven't got to shift players for financial reasons and try and replace their bodies in the squad with cheaper alternatives - which if we're humble and honest about it is a potential minefield. Outside of the manageable situations with Afobe and Etebo, the manager for the first time since he joined can probably make pure footballing decisions on players and financially most players in and out going forwards will be on similar wages. The excuses won't be the same even if they ever were 'excuses' in the first place. As fans we don't know what has been going on behind closed doors. I might be over playing it, you might be under playing it. We'll never know.

Doughty at the moment, but he cost £600k and is young enough to improve. Surridge didn’t settle and we got our money back. Fox is a bit meh but he was a free transfer. Who else?

Just looking at those names shows the pool he has had to fish in through no fault of his own though. I would add that Fletcher was good first season and Vrancic first half of this season and Bonham a decent squad keeper. Duhaney and Fox really highlight our fullback problem. We need far better. As dead wood goes not particularly expensive mistakes.

Add Matondo, Clarke and Sima who also didn’t improve us.

Not really. The question still stands who’s been a poor signing and not represented value for money? If you're satisfied with that Chester, Mikel, Duhaney, Surridge, Doherty, Fletcher, Wilmot and Bonham have produced in red and white then I can understand your question. I'll finish with Morgan Fox, he typifies exactly what this football club is about at the minute. Boring, useless, no hope of progress. Its like Clive Clarke has reappeared.

I thought he looked good in his last few games and he’s followed it up with a good year at Brugge. Sima and Clarke both had injury problems so they are difficult to judge.

We're in the same league as 24 other teams... with a bigger budget than most. We can no longer spend millions of players ... just like 75% of the other teams. Get used to it.

He admitted himself a matter of weeks ago he shuffled the pack in Jan and it had no effect on the team. How many more goes does he get at reshuffling under whatever budget before everyone realises it won't work?

If you take into account the money they have cost compared to the players they have replaced, they have done adequate jobs generally.

Chester, Fox, Mikel, Duhaney weren’t fit for the purpose we signed them for - doesn’t matter if they were free, we have precious little room to manoeuvre and they haven’t contributed what was required. Doughty is currently looking like a bust too but we shouldn’t give up on him yet. The question is whether the manager has. Getting our money back on Surridge doesn’t really excuse identifying and spending a fair chunk of change on someone who again couldn’t do what we needed him to.
