Wonder if we’ve got a Plan C/Plan D in case Delap/Davis don’t come off? You’d hope we have. This is Stoke. Of course we do. Plan C is to roll out the red carpet for Kenwyne Jones to come back before Plan D is offering 10 supporters a trial. God knows where we go from there.

You just know it's going to be Maja and Kongolo after all the hype.

I quite like Maja myself but I just think after all the hype it would feel a bit disappointing and it would heap a lot of pressure on him.

Possibly, but if we’ve hung our hat on those two, for whom there was always going to be serious competition, and don’t have a contingency plan, that’s pretty negligent and it’s going to be a long old season.

I wasn't impressed by him myself, I thought he was a bit of a 'nothing' striker. He doesn't come across to me, as a striker that could score 15 goals, and didn't seem to have much to his game, really.

If only Brown could keep hold of the ball better we wouldn't be so reliant on a new signing on top. Must say from what I saw last season that he has improved though, but still way off needed standard when it comes to holding the ball up.

Keinan Davis having a medical at Watford, so we can forget him. Could do with them getting Hause done to leave the Clarke path clearer for us theathletic.com/3501546/2022/08/12/aston-villa-keinan-davis-watford-kortney-hause/The agreement is understood to be a loan deal with the option of making it permanent at the end of the season. Davis is currently undergoing his medical and it’s understood barring any late complications the transfer will be completed today. It’s also understood that Watford are in talks for the signing of Kortney Hause, also from Villa, however that is not understood to be at such an advanced stage.

Realistically, we are not competing with Watford for players. If they want him, they get him. He is exactly the player we needed though.

There’s only so much bulk you can put on to be in a position to compete under pressure with someone 4/5 inches taller than you while still having the energy to do the rest of the things he does well at. There’s definitely room for improvement there, but like Campbell, it’s just not a natural part of his game.

We desperately desperately need a hold the ball up striker, we've needed it for a long long time
Why can't they search far and wide and just find a player that can do this? Why can't they sort this out?
Why do we have to go for years and years watching our team missing these basic components that are needed for a functioning football team
Tomorrow we play a shite team, but we'll suffer. If you are the Huddersfield manager the preparation is simple. Push up right on to our strikers as none of them can trap a ball under physical pressure.
Exploit our flat back 3 center backs, stay on the shoulders of those 3 and just play straight through balls.

Improved yes but still too unpredictable in quality for other players to play off.

Our tactical mastermind has obviously been working on countering these teams tactics. You could see it was coming to fruition against 10 man Morecambe. After all he did say he was pleased with our performance, although we struggled to cope with the press. As you say we can expect more of the same at Hudders tomorrow, together with the anticipated defeat, and yet more utter dross in his post match interview !

Perhaps because we have someone who plays the roll better than all but the best of our possible targets and being as we now have an alternative AM who will need to be given plenty of game time to satisfy the conditions of his loan his parent club are likely to have insisted upon. One of our top targets or fuck it for me.

In our position what do you expect the club to do? Suddenly create the perfect striker for us who happens to be available and at a price we can afford within FFP? Of course Stoke City management are well aware of the need for a striker and will be looking at the alternatives subject to financial restrictions to avoid points deductions.
