I want him to, just to see the tsunami of pissy knickers on here. Why? He needs getting rid of. Him signing a new contract is not a good sign for any of us. We can't moan about going backwards/standing still and then be happy when we re-sign players who have been largely disappointing for us for over 5 years, as well as now being 32! Absolutely spot on.

Just fuck off Jonah. WTF was our idiot CEO thinking giving you a new 4 year deal upon relegation, beyond bizarre. Pretty obvious it was their way of showing ambition, he wasn't considered to be part of the problem by those at the club, it was a bad idea but I think their intentions were right.

Running around equating to giving a shit is laughable.
If they stand still i.e Pogba than fair enough. But running around does not mean you bleed red and white.
I ran around the park loads last night and it was great fun. Running around is fun! Endorphins!

His awareness is good and his long forward passes are good it's his control and short passing that let him down. Coming back from the horrendous achilles injury (the worst sort of injury for a footballer alledgedly) as he did to play virtually every game since proves he can cope with the physical demands of the division. So not all fantasy. His awareness pre-Baker (off the ball at least) was his biggest weakness, the lack of positional discipline in midfield has been one of the single biggest problems in the side since he's been here. That's because pre Baker he was the only one who spotted danger developing. I can agree with his lack of positional discipline but on the ball he is aware as anybody of runs which are being made ahead of him and as I say sees where danger is coming from when the opposition make a break. I actually think you have to credit Jagielka for Allen's apparent improvement since January as he is by far the best reader of the game we have and so Allen no longer needs to do so much chasing around.

He never needed to do that much chasing around - him doing so made things worse. There have also been frequent times highlighted by replays of goals we've conceded where he's been slow to press the ball.

Don't disagree with either of those points but I do think he's better than a lot give him credit for on here. I suspect if you had assists of assists data he would be very high up the table.

Not going to argue about his football ability all a matter of opinion although comments like worst player ever signed soley responsible for our decline in the last six years do question the mentality of the people involved but I will argue about Wages -Although still one of the top earners nowhere near the money now that is often stated on here Contract -Never been anything in his contract to say he has to play every game but some idiots actually believe it even when he has played when he would rather not have even Ronaldo hasnt got a contract like that
Attitude - Cares a lot for the club doesnt like losing which explains some of the silly bookings when he has got frustrated with himself and the team also why he didnt leave when we were relegated when he had the chance

Not a smart move by ourselves really is it, all it will do is provide leverage for him to coax more money out of Swansea which is where he'll end up.

www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/owain-tudur-jones-gives-transfer-23946467Owain Tudur Jones has warned Swansea City they will be passing up a "massive opportunity" if they decide against a deal for midfielder Joe Allen, adding the former Liverpool man could well be willing to take a big pay cut to complete a move back to his boyhood club. As exclusively revealed by WalesOnline, the Swans are keen to bring the Wales international back to SA1 this summer, and have already been in contact over a potential move. However, it's understood they are one of as many as 12 clubs to have taken an interest.
Allen himself is believed to be open to a return to south Wales, but a stay at Stoke City hasn't yet been ruled out, with the player meeting with the Potters this week to discuss his future. There's also believed to be interest from Spain.
Speaking to BBC Radio Cymru, Jones said: “Swansea are going to get the chance to get Joe, potentially on a quarter of his wages, and he’s happy to do that. So if the club decides to say ‘no we’re not going to give it the go ahead’, well, come on.
“It’s more than just what Joe can actually do on the field. He’s not the most passionate in terms of giving speeches and bringing out the best of people in that way, it’s more about how he behaves, how he speaks to people personally. "But it’s more than that as well because of the feeling around the club, they’ll sell shirts. They’re going to miss a massive opportunity if they don’t act on this.” The financial implications of a move would have to be carefully considered, as well as the potential knock-on effects for other business this summer. Nevertheless, the enthusiasm from Swans boss Russell Martin can't be disputed. “He loves this club, I love him as a player. I will say it. I would love to [sign him]. We’ll have to wait and see,"

For what it's worth I like Joe but I do think it's time for a fresh start for him and us. We need some extra physicallity and athleticism in midfield.
Ironically played some of his best stuff this last half season since he has a decent partner. Coincidence? I think not. Maybe guilty of trying to do too much and covering for other's deficiencies in the past.

He's meant to be this PL quality midfielder on loads of money and he couldn't partly carry the team. He should have been able to but wasn't. Alls whilst not being the best performing midfielder when he's been here.

Alls whilst not being the best performing midfielder when he's been here. A handful of standout games in the 5-6 years he's been here, despite the fact he's on megabucks (certainly one of the biggest earners in the Championship) and all is forgiven because he runs around a lot. I honestly don't think there is any tangible difference to our team when he plays, at times it's even to our detriment. It's off the charts how bad the value for money is from our perspective.

I have never been a great fan of Joe Allen, especially after he was moved into a more defensive role because he doesn’t have the self-discipline to stay in position and he’s not a great tackler. He was much better when given a free rein and he did score a few goals when he first joined Stoke. However, he was starting to form a good partnership with Baker and we could do a lot worse, which we have shown to be quite capable of. Better the devil you know? The other interesting question is who would wear the captain’s armband. My vote would be for Souttar who in my opinion has the necessary leadership skills and the potential to be a better player than Shawcross (recovery from injury, notwithstanding).

No team in the world will sign a 32 year old player who is past his best at anywhere near his current salary, which is way more than he’s worth to start with.
