Bring Sawyers in and let Powell go. Why?

It’s par for the course Bayern as you well know and thats three now Don’t get me wrong I’d have sawyers back tomorrow despite the idiots cheering him as he was subbed so I’m not bashing him I just find it strange that’s all Perhaps it’s just me The team and the fans used to be as one, the team fed off the fans and the fans created the twelfth man because of the teams effort. When, where or why that trust in each other disappeared I don’t know but it seems to go hand in hand with the Clubs demise ? Personally I think we the fans got complacent and lost the “Us against the world “ attitude, and gradually turned into the prawn sandwich brigade, we have a new generation of fans who have known nothing but Premier League football and have never known the joy and shared accomplishment of promotion.

Doubt I'll see or hear a worse idea than this today. Feel free to explain why? Do...do I really need to? You're advocating jettisoning the team's most reliable source of goals and creativity in favour of a player whose stay here has been pockmarked by inconsistency. I'd be fine with signing Sawyers as an understudy to Powell but it would be insane to replace one with the other, especially given Sawyers is nearly three years older.

In the game before that he made his first appearance for months and immediately made more of a difference than anyone else and scored. Are we really saying the Coventry performance outweighs the near one in two record he had at the start of the season pre-injury, and his excellent season and a half before that?

It's usually a common courtesy, whether they mean it or not. I think it’s likely that some of these players see the fans as a problem rather than having to look at themselves. To be fair, it's entirely reciprocal on my part. 50% of this squad I’d have a party if they left, another 40% I wouldn’t raise an eyebrow. But generally we've been a dickhead to him. I wouldn't thank us either. If I was working at this club the fact that players are not making any reference to fans would be of a concern. Its not a matter of whether they should, or should not given the circumstances, or whether they are right or wrong, but it is indicative of a breakdown in rapport between players and fans and that should be investigated imo. In short, it's not a good sign. We know there could be a range of contributory factors most notably poor performances and/or modern day culture of players but a healthy relationship between fans and club is a factor that does help to breed success at a club imo. Support does make a difference to levels of commitment and motivation I have no doubt. If there is a prevailing negative attitude towards fans in the dressing room there should be someone big enough in the club to look into that and look at ways to turn that around. Its possibly something for the fans to think about too. I think it is unusual at this club for 3 players who are leaving to not mention the supporters.

His movement was not up to his usual standard but I put that down to him being way off match fitness after weeks on the sidelines.

Also, are we saying that overrides the actual, tangible contribution that Powell has made? You know, the goals and stuff?

Sawyers has delighted and infuriated me in almost equal measure.
He can be superb but he’s not a patch on Powell.
If Sawyers were able to get stuck in and do the dirty work anywhere close to the way Powell does it he’d be a far superior player.
You don’t see players simply waft by Powell!

I think it is an issue but with all 3 of them I’m not shocked nor would I have expected them to. Smith and Fletcher spent what a third of their time here with no fans? Maybe more? Neither were overly loved. Neither will overly missed. There was never a rapport there. But I do totally agree that it is an issue and one that needs looking at. But then I don’t think we help. Look at the Bursik thread and how a lot of people talk about a very young keeper making his way in the game. I wouldn’t give a shiny shit if I was him. Indeed I’d despise this club.

Don't disagree with any of this. I do think the fans have responsibilities too. It's not all one way. Personally, I think it may reflect a change in culture to one where people (like other commodities) are considered disposable, I'm seeing this in other sectors too, but maybe that is for another debate. I cant believe that players don't read comments on this forum. OK you could argue footballers should have thick skin, but for most humans it can only be so thick before it starts to bite.

My argument for stuff on here and Twitter (when the player isn’t @ ed it’s essentially like chatting in the pub. If they want to read that’s their issue imo. I think where it matters is in the stadium and the most popular player atm seems to be Brown but has he got a song? If he has I’ve never heard it at the Brit.

Anyone who wants to see Powell go needs a serious look at whether the game of football is for them. He is class, full stop. When I hear all this shit that he goes down easy and doesn't look interested I despair. He gets the shit kicked out of him and gets up every time, he plays balls that don't come off yes but that's what creative players do. They don't always come off but if the rest of the team were on his wavelength we would have a hell of a fucking team.

Bring Sawyers in and let Powell go. Why? Blimey. Swap a guy who although inconsistent can score, head the ball, put a shift in and tackle, for one who refuses to do any of these is not a great plan.

Just don’t get it. Even if you thought Powell was an expensive luxury wouldn’t thinking along those lines make Sawyers an extravagant waste of space?

Powell is one of our better players, if not the best! Despite of this I can see why people get frustrated by some of his performances. He can be exceptional, but in some games he just tries the impossible and looks a bit disinterested. Anyway, I feel we don't have much creativity within our team, and when Powell has an off-day, we can so easily see this. Both Sawyers and Vrancic are creative players, but we can't play with all these three as it leaves us too vulnerable defensively. By the way I really hope we can keep Sawyers as he is a bit like Powell when it comes to the creative part of the game. To get the best out of players like Powell and Sawyers we need a mobile target man with pace, not only Brown, because we then get too predictable, but with two mobile strikers with decent pace we will be a new animal! I also think we need another CM or DM to get the best out of players like Powell and Sawyers, hopefully someone younger than Allen. If none of our youngsters can make the step up we also need a new RB, because Smith had become so slow he couldn't get past anyone any longer.
