You’re wasting your time mate because certain posters will only be happy once he’s gone🙄 Fancy having your most influential player injured for most of last season(after starting the season well with him there especially at home) and another one the season before. He’s made mistakes in the transfer market for sure whilst shopping at Lidl but what manager doesn’t?We needed stability,we got it,we now need patience from a set of supporters who think they have some divine right to walk the championship whilst competing in the most competitive league there is It’s not even about walking the championship at this point, finishing top half would be a start. Then again if we finish 14th again with one point more than last year you’ll be happy won’t you? Its progress Rob however slow it maybe for some

But he made them into a better team than he can with the players he has signed. What’s that about? A team regularly featuring the likes of Lindsay, Batth, Smith, Ince, Allen, Gregory, McClean, Cousins, Vokes etc in the top 3-4 in the form table in his first 12 months. It's amazing when you think about it - like we're all under mass hypnosis to think about that first year and the nonsense that has come after it When we brought those players in, apart from Cousins and Lyndsay they were seen as top end championship players. I know that's not how it turned out. Of the ones O'Neill has brought in who would be seen as top end? Maybe only Baker. The rest are punts and players with potential and old stagers. So in reality the first season squad should be better than last season's.

Sawyers or Maja didnt show anything whilst they were here to suggest they could move us forward let alone become part of a promotion tilt. Sawyers is one of the most passive, wag a foot footballers i have ever seen, he makes Clucas look committed. This. I don’t mind either of but I’m not sure there the answer either certainly as starters. Both of them come across as quite lightweight for the Championship. Certainly the 3 we’ve signed so far will give us more steel and physicality which is what we need to push on. Last season it was clear we were lacking physicality and the ability to keep a lead. So far I’ve been impressed by the 3 coming in. They certainly strike me as the type we need. We don't need players who's contribution drops to zero without the ball at their feet. Powell is a far better player than either of those mentioned yet still doesn't mind getting involved in the dirty work. It's very hard if not impossible to carry players at this level who want to opt out of the physical battle. Players do exist who will do the nitty gritty and can play a bit as well(Powell, Baker, Laurent?), can't see any reason to depart from that template. No passengers.

It still doesn't excuse our performance compared to teams with much smaller budgets.

Well it does because when the parachute payments ended we were still left with a massive wage bill with none or very little room for manoeuvre.

This argument has been done to death MON has had a lot more room for manouvre than most championship managers and has used it, just not to great effect.

I don't think so, there have been a few clubs that have done some really good business yes Luton and Huddersfield but to suggest MON had more to work with than most I disagree.

Huddersfield, Luton, Blackburn, Millwall, Coventry, Preston, would all have loved the financial flexibility to bring in players for the sort of fees and wages as Surridge, Doughty, Wilmot, Moore, Jagielka, THB, Osigaard, Bidace, Maja sure there are more who haven't come to mind. That's just the clubs who finished above us. He definitely has had more room for manouvre than the vast majority of championship managers.

Comparing his resources to previous managers or to the resources of the bulk of other championship managers? even he aknowledged they were expensive deals.

Already laying the foundations for a bit of arse covering later down the line by the looks of it, he did it early doors last season too. Yep, he did it with his end of season review/interview as well. I reckon we're in for a third season of being "consistently inconsistent".

How many other championship clubs could have afforded Wilmot or Surridge last Summer or Doughty the previous January? Only because others made way Others. Do you mean other? Collins a player he can claim no credit for mainly used to pay players to go away, reducing the wage bill that he does claim credit for as if it was some sort of masterstroke on his behalf.

So why is it a massive season for him if his performance has been satisfactory? Because it’s the final year of his contract as far as I’m aware But if his performance has been satisfactory he'll be sure to be rewarded with a new one. All he needs to do is maintain his level, why would you not retain a manager with a satisfactory level of performance?

My comment was about finishing with more points and 15th being unlikely Hypothetically though, that would have to be considered progress by the same metric… It would depend again on the circumstances in which those points were achieved ie injuries being the main one. We need a return to the home form with Souttar in the team up until his injury last season, what was it one home defeat against Bournemouth?

He had little choice with the FFP situation So he used a player he could claim no credit for to create room for manouvre which we're arguing he didn't have. It was by it's very nature a manouvre many of his peers didn't have the luxury of.
