A 12 year old child was playing with a toy in a park. Now, he’s dead. What a stupid choice the child made by playing in a park. It wouldn’t be a deterrent to hardened criminals, they would just buy more guns and knives like they do in the US. All guns have done here is made cops more nervous, more likely to reach for a gun and more likely to escalate a situation. If cops are too scared to go to a situation, they shouldn’t be cops. I wasn't commenting on that individual case as you well know. That's obviously a tragic accident of massive proportion. If criminals are armed, cops should be. This is about the most stupid thing you’ve ever posted. Why would anyone want all coppers armed in this country? It’s just not needed. |

What the copper did was abhorrent and totally unnecessary. He hasn’t got the temperament needed for the job and I still think it was attempted murder. It was a vile act. It’s not justified. This deserves the Harry Enfield photo. What the copper did was abhorrent and totally unnecessary. He hasn’t got the temperament needed for the job and I still think it was attempted murder. In relation to there actions the incident could easily have been avoided if the 2 males hadn’t been so violent in the first place. There was very little aggressive about the initial contact by the police when they approached them. What was interesting was the lack of interest from all the members of public walking around none of whom made any attempts to assist the police when the male was throwing punches around. |

An interesting update re the lead up
On Tuesday, 23 July, Manchester Airport became the scene of a series of violent incidents culminating in the serious assault of three police officers.
The incidents have prompted widespread reaction and sparked controversy, particularly surrounding the handling and aftermath of the assaults.
Series of Altercations
According to Greater Manchester Police, the first disturbance occurred on Qatar Airways flight QR023, which landed at Manchester Airport at 19:20.
Reports indicate that an altercation broke out either during the flight or in the baggage hall of Terminal 2 (T2). The nature and cause of this initial conflict remain unclear.
Shortly afterwards, at approximately 20:22, a violent altercation involving members of the public erupted in the T2 Starbucks. The specifics of this altercation have yet to be detailed by authorities.
Assault on Police Officers
The situation escalated dramatically at 20:28 in the T2 car park pay point area when three police officers approached two males in connection with the earlier incidents.
CCTV footage shows the officers attempting to detain the suspects. One suspect, wearing a blue jumper, resisted arrest and appeared to attack one of the police officers.
The officer appeared to be beaten to the ground and repeatedly struck. As the officer managed to subdue his attacker, another suspect in a light blue top attacked from behind, punching the officer repeatedly in the head.
One of the officer’s colleagues managed to tase the second attacker. The attacker fell to the floor and was then repressed by the police officer who had been subjected to the violent attack.
All three officers sustained head injuries, with one female officer suffering a broken nose. All were hospitalised following the assault.
Partial Clip Sparks Outcry
A bystander’s partial clip of the incident, showing only the officer’s actions after being attacked, went viral on social media.
This led to significant public backlash and controversy. Greater Manchester Police bowed to public pressure and suspended the police officer who was attacked.

I think that video exonerates the officer, I certainly think reasonable force applies in this instant.
We're talking split seconds between the officer being punched numerous times to the head to him kicking and stamping the guy on the floor.
Andy Burnham was reluctant to castigate the officer days ago, now we see why.
