Really good first half of the season but dropped off a lot towards the end. Not sure how much he's got left in the tank.
Imagine we will try and sign Sawyers and that would be the no 10 role covered between him and Powell.
Rimenhota, Laurent, Baker, Thompson would be a decent pool for the deeper roles.

Possibly but I was specifically told we have made contract offers for 2 Reading midfielders and that was days ago before this link for Laurent came up. I've just been too busy this last week to be a nuisance Oh ok, fair enough. And tbh, they've been bob on so far. I just don't know the specifics ie how many of them do we actually want? It's certainly piqued my interest though because the thought of keeping it the same was just such a bad one.

www.germanijak.hr/nogomet/vijesti/mario-vrancic-uskoro-postaje-novi-igrac-rijeke/100260The 33-year-old midfielder played for Stoke last year, and he is coming to Rujevica as a free agent. During the summer market, so many rumors are heard that not everyone manages to filter out the good and the true and the bad and the false. Rijeka is a team in whose locker room many new faces will appear this summer, and one of them is that of Mario Vrančić , a 33-year-old midfielder born in Slavonski Brod who has made six appearances for the BiH national team. So far in his career, Vrančić has played only for German (Mainz, BVB II, Paderborn, Darmstad) and English clubs (Norwich, Stoke), and although he had another year of contract with the English second division, he will come to Rujevica as a free agent. Vrančić and Rijeka have been talked about for some time, so this signature is nothing new. A year ago, when he left Norwich, Vrančić had an offer from Rijeka on the table, but in the end he decided to go to Stoke. And he didn't make a mistake, because he has a great season behind him in which he collected a total of three goals and seven assists in 35 appearances, which is not bad for a central midfielder - in a hard league like the Championship. This is how Vrančić comes to Rijeka. He has undergone medical examinations, but the whole job - for a short time - is unofficial. He is expected to be presented by the club in the next 48 hours, very easily much earlier. That experienced midfielder is Rijeka's third reinforcement this summer. First Dujmović from Jarun arrived, then Pablo Alvarez from the Black Sea, and now Mario Vrančić has joined the team. If anyone was worried about who would 'lead' the young boys from Rijeka, he got an answer today, because a player who has 76 appearances in Bundesliga 1, 83 appearances in Bundesliga 2 and 20 appearances in the Premier League and 133 appearances in the Championship is certainly someone whose word in the locker room have weight. Also, these days, Rijeka is expected to prepare the arrival of a strong defender. For now, the name is kept secret, but he is someone who, just like Vrančić in the midfield, should bring security in front of Nediljko Labrović .

Only had a 1 year contract with option of extending for a 2nd year if agreed ?

Presumably he automatically triggered the extension through appearances etc but isn't obliged to take it up if he has other options?

I think he exercised his option didn't he? We didn't overly want him. We've probably paid him off a bit to match the wage and then they will pay the rest and he's off.

Oh ok I thought he'd definitely signed up. Pity, I liked his languid style, presumably the Newcastle loan guy comes into play for us now? Although Eliot don't make shoes..

Disappointing, especially after the trigger for the extra year was confirmed. I didn't think he got back to full fitness for the season run-in, and he still would've had a lot to offer in and around the first team.

Hopefully this just means more opportunities for DWP to fill in at 10 and for Thompson to cover for Baker. I really don’t want us breaking the bank for Sawyers.

Sawyers isn’t the answer. Would rather have Elliott on loan.

A relatively cheap and reasonably successful season. A classy player who’s best days are behind him, I wish him well.

We bring in Flint, than get rid of a player who could find his head in the penalty box.

It's kinda like a deja vu with Obi Mikel!!! [/quote Does it help with FFP if he signed his extension or we exercised it and then let him go ( like Mikel) rather than him walking away without a contract in place ?

A shame really as he probably had another year in the tank.
I just hope there's a plan to replace him properly and give cover for Powell.

Stadion Rujevica. Looks perfect for a semi-retired player looking to kick back a bit. The Championship is a battlefield, to be honest Mario doesn't need it, I wish him well.
