UN MeetingClearly the best case didn't work out since Russia's army didn't break but some choices seemed weird. I honestly thought the June attacks towards Robotine were distractions, to be followed by a big hit elsewhere. But Ukraine kept going straight at the strongest defences. The strategy critics either: 1. knew the plans, Ukraine followed through but the critics are lying for media points
2. knew the plans, Ukraine changed plans and the critics are leaking top-secret info for media points. 3. didn't know the plans and are talking shit
Only point 2 could put blame on Ukraine, right? Meanwhile delays in cluster munitions, ATACMS, F-16s etc are all the West's fault.
On the other hand, IMO the success of the counteroffensive is unclear. Public data say we're on course to a grinding Ukrainian victory, but important data is hidden and crazy things happen in war so how do we know.

It's been raging for 18 months now, if it was that one sided it would have been over long ago. Are they winning? No one really knows due to all the misinformation that gets peddled by both sides. |

BBC Russia journo who's been doing great reporting says that 50 minutes of prime time Russian news completely ignored the black sea fleet HQ getting blown up. No escalation or anything. Putin could take his troops home and the news would report on the glorious success. The only thing escalating and lengthening the war has been the limited western aid IMO. (The UK has done well so far, but looking for the aid to keep going)

Hmm, some military guy was chatting and said you normally send a couple at each major target to ensure a hit. That's what they seemingly did with the submarine and landing ship.
So did Ukraine send more missiles, or are storm shadows so good they can just send 3 and be confident of 3 hits?
Fwiw Ukraine claimed 4 launches at the ship+sub while Russia claimed 10.

Whilst long overdue from my understanding America will not provide from their own stocks but have ordered them for Ukraine which will take 12 months, if true kinda pointless but could be blah ofc. Firmly of the opinion that the German Taurus will be in UK Rospo ET rather than later. |

Ukraine got some armour through the "dragon's teeth" defence line but some experts say it's not a real breakthrough yet.
No idea if the breach is stable or if Ukraine has the soldiers and ammo to keep going though.

Is Russian storage running out of usable Giatsint-S mobile artillery? It uses a different barrel from the other types and hasn't been produced since 1991. They seem to be stripping the ones left.

It's full of shite, get the facts from elsewhere. Storm Shadows were launched from Ukrainian Su-24 jets last week, way after Russia said it destroyed every Ukrainian jet 3 times over. Dunno exact Ukrainian losses but there's this tracker. They'll miss stuff that's not caught on camera, but there's loads of drone footage covering miles forwards and back from every hot bit of the front. Maybe artillery is undercounted because it's far back, but IMO there are good reasons to think Russian gun losses are more likely to be undercounted than Ukrainian. |

Swedish text-tv news says Russia have been attacked by Ukraine on a daily basis for a month now, according to Russia.
Yesterday in Kursk several miles outside of Ukraine by drones, they say.
It seems they feel in desperate need for international help from USA, Europe and elsewhere, if you make an interpretation based on how it's presented.

But so many things could change. In the scenario you hope for, what, if anything, happens next? The hope; Russian losses are way higher than Ukrainian despite firing shells like crazy. Longer term funding for Ukraine comes through, China doesn't send heavy kit to Russia and Moscow keeps delaying mass mobilisation. I think a lot depends on how much each side is hurting, particularly for infantry and ammo. And that info ain't public. |
