Trump said peace, but it seems we're further away from it. Putin want to attack Kiev w ballistic robots capable of holding nuclear weapons. Possibly this whole thing will end w a total wipe out of the whole of Ukraine. Never mind that, what’s happening in the Handball Euros? Just a second ... Hmm. Seems to be some good news here at last concerning Ukraine. Zelenskiy can think of an agreement with Russia to leave 25% of Ukraine if the other 75% will be protected by Nato and they also want a possibility to get the 25% back after negotiations w Russia. I take the Handball news in the Handball thread.

"The other day, the Zaporizhia Regional Prosecutor's Office published footage of the shooting of 5 Ukrainian prisoners of war on November 24 near Novodarivka. We know about these facts as well. Soldiers of the 114th battalion of the 110th OBr TrO were shot.
Another fact of shooting was published by the Donetsk regional prosecutor's office . Again in the Petrivka area. 4 Ukrainian prisoners of war were shot."
Ukrainian military source that has been really reliable.
I've seen so many videos of surrendering and unarmed Ukrainians being murdered in cold blood by Russians.
When asking why Ukrainians don't just want to surrender like Putin is demanding and Trump is supporting, remember that Russians mass torture and murder Ukrainians the moment they are defenceless.

Volodymyr Zelensky has hinted he would agree a ceasefire deal to end the Ukraine war if Nato agrees to accept his country as a member.
In an interview with Sky News, the Ukrainian president suggested he was prepared to end the 'hot phase' of the war in exchange for membership of the bloc.
He said if the Ukrainian territory he controls was taken 'under the NATO umbrella', he could return the rest, which is currently under Russian occupation, in a 'diplomatic way'.
Zelensky has previously suggested that the war would not end until his country is returned to its internationally recognised borders.
'If we want to stop the hot phase of the war, we need to take under the NATO umbrella the territory of Ukraine that we have under our control,' Zelensky said.
'We need to do it fast. And then on the [occupied] territory of Ukraine, Ukraine can get them back in a diplomatic way.'
The Ukrainian leader was answering questions on what president-elect Donald Trump's desire to end the war would mean for his country.
It has been reported that one of the Republican's plans to achieve this would involve Kyiv ceding the land taken by Russia in exchange for Ukraine's Nato membership.

Ceding temporarily according to the Swedish news. Then in the negotiations thereafter having a chance of getting some/all back. It doesn't say what Ukraine have to do to "compensate" or wtf we should call it ...

Russian glide bomb strikes have dropped by half since Biden allowed missile strikes into Russia.
Could be a coincidence, but it also could be that Russia had to pull jets further out of range.
If this sticks around longer term then it's a massive, massive deal.

I think we're going to see a lot of talk like this now, both sides want to seem reasonable to get international support. With the US likely joining the dictators' side it's up to the remaining democracies to help stop Russia now.

Assad says Russia has promised to send military aid to Syria.
There's a video of people saying an airstrike hit a square in Aleppo. Bloody corpses in civilian clothes all over the place. Only Assad and Russia have jets.
But what else can Russia do? It's not like the airborne forces or even ancient T-54s can be spared.
The whole thing looks horrendous. Assad and Russia are evil, but there are bad things written about the HTS opposition group too.

"Russia's arms industry needs the war to end so that it can resume earning hard currency Russia had sold $15 billion worth of weapons in 2021, $7 billion in 2022, and $6 billion in 2023. Figures for 2024 have not been released yet but are forecast to be even lower." Russia marked up exports by a lot and used the profit to pay for its own weapons and development. bsky.app/profile/chriso-wiki.bsky.social/post/3lc7353ddfc2n

My belief is that any country who produces weapon for themselves or buy them from abroad need to use them at some point, otherwise their people will claim it's a waste of money.
Therefore we need to stop producing weapons. It's all very simple really.
