Anyone else find it strange that masks come back in to force in most settings and the cases have sky rocketed? (granted a lot of this is down to an increase in testing)

Tell you what, they're going to an awful lot of trouble to change the narrative from illegal Tory Christmas parties.

Masks came back into force BECAUSE of the number of cases being on the rise, didn't they? When they announced they were coming back, the case levels were no higher than peaks in July and October. Are you really trying to say that the wearing of masks has caused a rise in the infection rate? Jesus - even Tory nutters haven't gone that far. Meanwhile, in Brentford: “We think we should postpone the full round of Premier League games this weekend,” Frank said. “Covid cases are going through the roof at all Premier League clubs; everyone is dealing with it and having problems. “To postpone this round and also the Carabao Cup round [next Tuesday and Wednesday] would give everyone a week at least, or four or five days to clean and do everything at the training ground so everything is clean and you break the chain.” Frank was informed midway through his Thursday morning press conference of four more Covid cases overnight at Brentford – bringing the total involving players and staff at the club to 13."

Yeah, but the masks were only reintroduced once it was discovered that the Omicron variant was much more transmissible than previous variants. Bits of fabric don't cause mysterious spread of viruses. There's really no need to look for hidden conspiracies where none exists.

No, I don't do you? It's almost as if you think that one is linked to the other....but that would be Covid Recovery Group crazy, wouldn't it?

How exactly is it going to “break the chain on covid”? The main point is it would be fairer if all games were postponed Less travel / interaction may help reduce the transmission That's right, and that will drag it out for longer. This 'varient' is a cold, there is no evidence whatsoever that it is any more serious than that

On the plus side the fact that everyone is getting this mild virus is great news. We should, in theory, be done by February. Clearly the government, government sponsored media and behavioural "Scientists" at SAGE will have other ideas.

Depends what you mean by "work". They will not stop you getting it, just as vaccination or boosters doessn't stop you getting it. What masks do is decrease the chance that if you are infected, you will spread it to those around you.

Despite the fact mask mandated countries suffered far greater than us whilst we had no mask mandate. For every article you can find proving masks work, you can find another that says they don't. We'll probably never know for certain but in my opinion, they onner worth the string they're hung on.

We'll probably never know for certain but in my opinion, they onner worth the string they're hung on. That was probably true in the early stages of this pandemic. But, as more and more data has become available there is a consensus that masks do work - primarily by reducing the chances of an infected person (who wears a mask) spreading the virus to other people indoors or on public transport or anywhere where ventilation is poor. You are entitled to your opinion but I'll go with the science.

Do you think we might go 'closed doors' again?
There is something incongruous about being told to work from home and skulk round Waitrose in a face mask while 50,000 fans, frothing at the mouth, are jammed like sardines in football stadia up and down the land.
I just think someone will call 'time' on this in the next week or so.

As fans we now have to prove we've had both "jabs"before we can attend a match...isnt it only fair that the club tell us which players are positive and whether they have had the vaccine????🤔🤔 It isn't anybodies business but theirs, health status is personal whether they've had the clot shot or not its also my buissiness about my health situation but I am NOT allowed access to a football match...which is my point which obviously went over your head!!!

I just think someone will call 'time' on this in the next week or so. I find the whole situation at present to be illogical. As you point out people are being told to work for home but also being told that it is safe to attend footy matches subject to a negative test or a full vaccination record. Even more illogically, the government has told people to work from home if possible but that they can go into work for the annual Christmas party!!!! WTF is that all about? The government is claiming to follow the science - I bet no scientific committee has told them it is a good idea to allow works Christmas Parties.

Imagine going into the Christmas fixture list and being expected to compete with a squad of 14 players as the games come in thick and fast. This is also going some way to showing how badly underestimated the number of Covid cases in the general population is. I've seen some data for the sector that I work in and there's been a big increase in the number of positive cases this week because people have had to start testing themselves properly. Ditto footballers. It would not surprise me if the current new case level was 2 or 3 times the official figure. Given that the Omicron symptoms seem to be close to those of the common cold there will be thousands who assumed they had a cold and didn't bother to test themselves.
