Millwall only have something like 16 first team players on their books and don't think have signed anyone yet. You'd assume they were trying to get Afobe back on loan.

I suspect we're just happy to get rid of his wages, if there's a fee then that's a bonus.

Every time I read that we paid £12.5m for him, I want to throw darts at pictures of Rowett and Kevin 'he's a guarantee of promotion at this level' Phillips.

Do we think there is a fee involved? Good if so! I'm assuming we are paying them. Probably about 1.5 million as a handling/ consideration fee, to oil the wheels.

I expect we'll know if a signing is completed when they break out the celebration bunting at Clayton Wood.
I'm surprised that Stoke had to give formal permission for Benny to talk to other clubs. I would have assumed their consent was a given!

www.hln.be/club-brugge/club-brugge-dicht-bij-stoke-city-spits-benik-afobe~a5001ae2/Club Brugge close to Stoke City striker Benik Afobe If everything goes according to plan, Club Brugge will soon sign Stoke City attacker Benik Afobe. The search for an additional midfielder is in full swing, but everything indicates that Club Brugge will first sign a new attacker with Benik Afobe. According to our information, the London-born Congolese Englishman has extensive conversations with Blue-Black, who are looking for extra violence in the front after the departure of Dost and Adamyan. Center striker Afobe is a different type from De Ketelaere, Lang and newcomer Jutglà, which is still present for the time being, which would offer Hoefkens more options. Afobe was given permission by Stoke City to enter into negotiations - the Arsenal youth product is still under contract with The Potters for one year, who will not stand in the way of an outgoing transfer. His contract status means that blue and black should not transfer too high a transfer fee to Stoke, which paid a sloppy 13 million euros to the English Wolves in 2019. Afobe is not a classic Championship striker. Last season he showed himself to be fast, agile, strong on the ball and above all accurate. Millwall hopes to use the striker in his final year of contract with Stoke as well, but Afobe prefers an adventure in Europe.

Well if he finally does leave that will be the end of Rowetts dream front 3 of Ince Afobe McClean, costing a mere £27m !!! The return for that investment is less than zero. Some people blame Hughes for where we are now, but 27m with FFP on the horizon....read it and weep! It's a classic case of owners backing the manager with nobody prepared to question Rowetts transfer dealings. I am not sure anyone on here would have agrreed with Rowetts choice of a front 3. I guess we have FFP to thank for stopping another manager pissing millions up the wall without any challenge from the board.

You can't help thinking that a good DOF would not only have stopped those deals going through, but would have helped steer the board in the right direction in terms of a manager capable of spending that kind of money wisely, and put in a proper recruitment model earlier, given the thoughts within the corridors of the club were to spend that level of finance that summer. Ultimately it does us no good as fans to keep on going over it, and crying over spilt milk but it doesn't half make your blood boil when it does enter your thoughts. There are no guarantees of success in football I'm sure we all know and accept, but you can control things a bit better than what we did surely? It just disappoints me and infuriates me in equal measure. The Coates family are genuinely good people, look after their workforce, invest heavily in the area and i'm convinced we'll never see their like again on that front in this city but they haven't got a clue how to modernise their football club. It could and should be so much better.

The thing I always remember about Club Brugges goes all the way back to 1968, when the Baggies played them in the Cup Winners Cup and lost 3-1 in Brugges. On a tempestuous night the Brugges leg became notorious for the level of violence, both on and off the pitch. Asa Hartford scored for the Albion but the evening was marred by riots off the field and attacks on the players as they tried to leave the pitch. The game is still known in this country as the "Battle of Brugges"
If History is anything to go by, a little "extra violence" from Benny might go down well in Brugges!

I presume this talk of a biggish fee is highly speculative! www.hln.be/club-brugge/club-brugge-dicht-bij-stoke-city-spits-benik-afobe-die-na-enkele-woelige-jaren-carriere-wil-herlanceren~a5001ae2/Benik Afobe will be the new striker of Club Brugge, barring surprises. The 29-year-old attacker impressed this year on a loan basis at Millwall FC, series mate of his parent club Stoke City. The London club wanted to keep Afobe ashore in his last contract year, but the youth product of Arsenal seems completely won for a Bruges adventure. Club is in far-reaching negotiations with Afobe, who should offer Carl Hoefkens and the blue and black in the front more options. For Stoke City, the departure of the striker, who is entering his final year of contract, is a foregone conclusion. A few million euros should therefore be sufficient to quickly find an agreement. The player himself wants to try his luck in Europe after a few turbulent years.
