Wow a pleasantly surprising morning, England in complete control. The young lad Potts has had a dream start. Jimmy's figures for the morning are outstanding again but we shouldn't be surprised. What a fantastic controlled bowler he is

Leach out with concussion, a replacement tbc imminently: My understanding is it has to be a "like for like" replacement so could be Parkinson but not a quick bowler, I could be wrong though? You're absolutely right. They couldn't replace him with either a fast bowler or a batsman. Parkinson has got the call and is travelling down from Manchester.

Is Jeremy Coney on TMS? One of the best cricket commentators. Yes, Coney is on TMS and I agree that he is a fine commentator.

Fantastic stuff.
Shame for Leech mind.

NZ all out, let's hope our openers can get us off to a good start for a change.

One down. Shame that as he looked well set.

Well, that was a good start but… Crawley just can’t help himself. A wafty drive, edge, catch, out.
40 something is nice but just not good enough, particularly when you gift your wicket.

Fantastic with the ball earlier, still hopeless with the bat though.
Pope looked exactly how you’d expect a struggling middle-order batsman to look when moved up to 3.
I don’t like what I’ve seen of Lees so far, like Sibley he’s very easy to bog down and doesn’t seem to have many scoring shots.
Why do all the openers we’ve tried over the last couple of years have some kind of quirky technique?

Has Livingstone managed to get to the ground yet? It would make an interesting cricket question. Name the batsman given Timed Out (Stuck on the M6/M1) on his Test debut. I guess everyone was worrying unnecessarily about the poor ticket sales for Saturday and Sunday.

All the changes, but it's the same old same old England.
Very poor from NZ, yet England will struggle to reach NZ 1st innings score.
If NZ get 150 on Friday, it could be over inside 2 days, in NZ favour.

We have a new director of cricket, new coach and new captain but between them they’ve picked exactly the same batsmen that crumble every time they are put under a bit of pressure.

Well, that was a day full of action.
And a day that reaffirmed our strengths and weaknesses… the strength of course being our bowling when the ball is doing something. Our weaknesses being our bowling when the ball isn’t doing something and our batting - in every respect.
We had New Zealand at 45-7 while we were at 59-0. And yet, it looks that New Zealand may well end up with a 1st innings lead.
Our red ball reset has just reset us to where we were when the reset button was pressed.
Oh dear.

Great to have a Bank Holiday to celebrate the first test of the summer. This should be a regular thing! Looks to me like a good day for batting but hopefully England can come up with something. Well this was possibly the worst prediction I have ever made but I don't think the conditions justify the scores. Both sides batted badly. NZ will probably bat better in their second innings but I am not so sure that England will. Welcome to England, Brendon!

Nobody deserves their first cap more than Parky, the poor guy has been carrying water for a while when Leach was doing nothing while continually getting decent bowling figures in the County game.

Go on Jimmy.
With our batting we’ll need them out for less than 50.

23 wickets falling in the first four sessions on what is pretty good pitch. Both sides have bowled well but the batting has been really poor.
The game could potentially be over today.

We must have some staunch royalists (root bairstow & pope, my guess) who are aghast at the thought of playing Sat and Sunday and see it as an affront to her majesty...
No idea why NZ keep wanting to chuck things away though..

Game just starting to get away from us now. Parkinson bowling some absolute filth. I think you are being a bit harsh. It's his first spell in test cricket on a wicket that isn't giving him any assistance and against two set batsmen who are trying to get after him. Most young leg spinners will bowl some loose deliveries.
