Are Sky not covering The Blast this year? Couple of decent looking games tonight but they've got bugger all on. Trying desperately to stop getting dragged into watching Silent Witness.

NZ will obviously start favourites as they are the World Test Champions but they have lost home tests in recent months to Bangladesh and South Africa. Taylor has retired, Nicholls is carrying an injury and Boult seems likely to miss the first test so they have issues to deal with. As usual it will come down to whether our batsmen can score enough runs to give our bowlers a chance. I would like to see Brooks given his debut as he is in form and full of confidence but he will probably be 12th man. Hopefully we can catch New Zealand whilst they’re still a bit undercooked, they were well beaten by a county select XI last week with a few their batsmen missing out on time in the middle. I don’t think they’ll miss Taylor, he hadn’t done much for them for a while and his replacement Will Young looks the part. Boult will be a miss for the first test but Jamieson, Southee, Wagner and Henry are all excellent fast bowlers. Brooks should be given a go whilst he’s in such good form but that looks unlikely barring a last minute injury. Hopefully they’ll go with Potts over Overton but I have my doubts that will be the case.

At least they’ve had a few weeks playing in our conditions which is something we seem to constantly miss the ball on. I’m sick hearing “ we’ve only had one game to prepare” and all that stuff. We really need to get the schedules sorted as it seems every time we’re away we and up playing g each other in practice games instead of proper sides.

Well, Prestwich will be happy. Potts in ahead of Overton for the first test tomorrow: James Anderson and Stuart Broad return as Matthew Potts makes debut at Lord'sZak Crawley (Kent), Alex Lees (Durham), Ollie Pope (Surrey), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Jonathan Bairstow (Yorkshire), Ben Stokes (Durham), Ben Foakes (Surrey), Matthew Potts (Durham), Jack Leach (Somerset), Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire), James Anderson (Lancashire) I’m less enamoured though. I always enjoy reading Prestwich’s comments about Overton’s performances. Good luck boys. I think we are going to need plenty of it!

Have Crawley at 3 instead of opening, find another opener. Get rid of pope and it's a decent first pick.

Pretty much all the counties are streaming their own matches now on YouTube mate. Have a look. I've watched pretty much all of Lancs matches this season, and the quality is excellent, they've really invested in it.

for those who like a bet... NZ are over 3-1 on betfair exchange!... my head says thats absolutely massive value given recent results and rankings, NZ should be shorter than england for this game on every form line in the book.

It’s a very good price, the only issue is the weather forecast after Friday isn’t looking great. Getting on the draw my be the best option.

Great to have a Bank Holiday to celebrate the first test of the summer. This should be a regular thing! Looks to me like a good day for batting but hopefully England can come up with something.

And another... and the same combination.
And another one handed effort, although this time a little less glorious.
2-2 is a pretty good start though!

What a start. The Ben Stokes effect. I think it's more to do with the "bowling the right length and line" effect. But, whatever; it's making for very nice viewing this morning.

Leach out with concussion, a replacement tbc imminently:
My understanding is it has to be a "like for like" replacement so could be Parkinson but not a quick bowler, I could be wrong though?

It’s probably worked in our favour that he has concussion and that the protocol comes into play because it sounds like he hurt his shoulder so may not have been fit to bowl.
