We’ll do well to avoid a whitewash against New Zealand. You look through their side and there are no weaknesses, you look through ours and are left with more questions than answers.
Crawley has played over 20 tests now and averages under 30. We’ve all seen enough of him to know he’s not cut out for this level and his form in the County Championship this season has been poor.
Pope has failed to establish himself in the side batting at 5/6 and now we hope he’s going to be able to do a job at 3?
Our fascination with picking bowlers who can bat a bit means that Overton and Leach will play over the likes of Potts and Parkinson. Call me old fashioned but I’d be picking the four bowlers that’ll give us the best chance of taking twenty wickets, I couldn’t care less if they can bat or not.
Just had a look at the NZ squad and it's pretty much full strength with lots of experience of English conditions, it will be a tough Test series. Squad in full: Kane Williamson (c), Tom Blundell (wk), Trent Boult, Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Colin de Grandhomme, Jacob Duffy, Cameron Fletcher, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Ajaz Patel, Rachin Ravindra, Hamish Rutherford, Tim Southee, Blair Tickner, Neil Wagner, Will Young.

The league section is now over in the IPL, so just 4 games to go.
A wee prompt for those of us playing the fantasy league… remember to check out your squad as you may need to make quite a few substitutions with just 4 teams left in the tournament.
I guess 5 of us are still in with a shout at winning the Oatcake League, but it looks like it’s the Deeamteam’s to lose.

Meanwhile, while I’m happy enough with my team’s overall performance in the County Championship fantasy league, I’m pissed at my two big signings, Root and Stokes, turned out very disappointing scores.
The good news, looking forward, is both will be out of my side next time as they’ll be playing test cricket so I’ll have plenty of dosh to bring in replacements.
Next round ain’t till June 10, so plenty of time before then to decide what changes to make.

So no pressure then!
Am I right in thinking you get to pick your first 11 again without penalty? When’s the semis?

You get up to 8 free transfers plus another two, if you need them, you pay for.
They don’t have a semi final as such, they play a sort of weighted qualification tournament. It makes sense when you look at it.

I think we are playing for second place at best. I can’t decide whether to pick a few complete outliers and hope that they come good. Buttler should be dropped but he’ll hit a ton off 30 balls if I do!
Who dropped Buttler? 😬😬 That saying about how luck balances itself out has rarely been less appropriate than watching the middle portion of his innings!

I kept him.
Had been thinking the unthinkable, but just couldn’t bring myself to do the deed.
T20 Blast starts this week. Heading to Old Trafford on Friday night for the Roses, and multiple ales. Anyone else going?
Was at Edgbaston last night to see the Bears' new signing Paul Stirling smash five sixes and a four in one over. So close to seeing six sixes, but the last one he edged it over the keeper for four. Gutted

Stirling has never met a pie that he didn’t like. He’s like a throwback and I love that.

Ha, yeah, there's something of the Inzamam about him, that's for sure!
It was kind of funny last night, the ground was buzzing as you'd expect in anticipation of seeing something so rare and the deflation everywhere at "only" scoring 34 off the over was funny. He looked so disappointed too!
How many times has it actually been done now? When I was growing up, it was just Garfield Sobers off Graham Nash at Glamorgan but I imagine with all the T20 stuff around it's happened a few more times?

Off the top of my head Ravi Shastri did it in an Indian domestic game and Yuvraj took 36 off Broad in T20 match. I’m almost certain Kieron Pollard has too.

You're right. Shastri definitely came to my mind too. Not sure about anyone else though.
I saw Stirling at the Hundred final last summer and was impressed by him, so I'm pleased he's signed for the Bears. Not quite such a devastating knock tonight v Derbyshire but 29 off 17 is still a good input. With Davies and Brathwaite in the side and Briggs and Lintott as spinners, we might have a decent shout this year?

Congrats to Thedreamteam whoever you are on winning the IPL fantasy league. I have to say a busy period at work completely scuppered my chances but it was good fun and added a bit of interest to proceedings. My CC team needs a major revamp and I think I can get all my ducks in a row to make a charge for the title as it’s not so relentless.
Am I right in thinking the NZ series starts this week? Looks like Pope will bat 3 which seems insane to me but we shall see.
I’m globetrotting for 3 weeks on Wednesday so I’ll be back on June 20th

I came 6th which I was more than happy with as i know next to nothing about the IPL. Great fun and thanks Prestwich for organising it.

I’ll second that vote of thanks for prestwichpotter. It added a (much needed) dimension to the IPL. Previously it’s got a little tedious!
I also add my congratulations to the winner, Dream Team. Great effort fella.
The good news is we can get back to the more traditional red ball game on Thursday.
I can’t say I’m feeling particularly optimistic about our prospects. We look as weak as ever in pretty much all departments and are up against a very good side in New Zealand.

NZ will obviously start favourites as they are the World Test Champions but they have lost home tests in recent months to Bangladesh and South Africa. Taylor has retired, Nicholls is carrying an injury and Boult seems likely to miss the first test so they have issues to deal with. As usual it will come down to whether our batsmen can score enough runs to give our bowlers a chance. I would like to see Brooks given his debut as he is in form and full of confidence but he will probably be 12th man.

Trouble is he’s vying for a position where we find our most experienced and settled batsmen. Pope at 3 is a mistake for me, can’t see anything other than nick after nick to the slips, 20/3 here we go again! Still, great to see proper cricket back, I’ve missed it! Although I’m abroad for 3 weeks from tomorrow so won’t see a bit☹️
