Mark Wood in bowling ever so quick but getting despatched to all parts of the ground shocker..... I just cannot understand why he got picked? What is the thinking there? We desperately need some new bowlers to come through. Good effort from WIndies. I didn't hold much hope for them, but there you go, I'm usually wrong about these things, and at least I'm consistent.

It's a real shame that the Windies are no longer a bone fide competitive test nation Not really. Gotta kick em whilst they’re down😉 Nah, thats for Aussies

For us to force Anderson into retirement so that we can “look to the future” and then name Woakes and Wood in the next team is all a bit puzzling.

For us to force Anderson into retirement so that we can “look to the future” and then name Woakes and Wood in the next team is all a bit puzzling. Woakes is in the team partly for his batting and partly because he is a willing workhorse who will bowl longer spells to enable the quicker bowlers to bowl short spells. The selectors are hoping that Wood will make the next Ashes tour. Last time he was our best bowler down under. Also many of our other fast bowlers, Archer , Tongue, Stone, Mahmood and Jamie Overton amongst others struggle to stay fit.

I don’t think Woakes’s batting should come into it, Anderson can also do the workhorse role and he’s a much better bowler. Neither Anderson or Woakes are going to be playing in Australia though so it would have made more sense to play Pennington or Cook.

Hope we use a bit of common sense when we bat in these conditions. Need to set them 300+

No way should Shamar Joseph be at 11. Some of those shots were seriously good!
Still confused and mystified as to why the leadership forced Anderson into retirement.

Crawley has to be one of the luckiest beneficiaries of an England test career.
Averages a very modest 33 from 83 innings. Take away his HS 267 and it's just 29.
Even Woakes averages 27.
He's a frustratingly inconsistent and lucky boy is Zak, even if today's dismissal was very unfortunate.

Excellent by Brook and Root. Proper disciplined batting no silly risks.

Their rationale was that he wasn't going to play on the next Ashes as such the time between now and then is to allow others to develop Whether that works or not is another matter but seems like the right decision at the right time to me

Good Test match this.
Credit to the TB groundstaff for producing such a good five day track with something for batters and bowlers 👏

He was Englands highest run scorer in both last years ashes and the tour of India. He was even Englands top scorer just last week. He was due a shit game. Hopefully he will bounce back in the next match.

Bashir looks a real prospect. Great to see an English spinner showing these kind of skills, at such a young age.

Seemed like it was a bit of a whim but it’s worked pretty well in the main

Well done to the bowlers, they needed to show they can perform as a unit without Jimmy and they’ve done it. Albeit against some pretty ordinary opposition

He’s got a huge amount of potential but with him getting very few games for his county there’s a danger he goes the way of the majority of the other spinners we’ve tried since Swann retired.
