I agree, some dodgy examples there really Some unsurprisingly dull suggestions with literally every suggestion being an individual sport and a painfully shit sport that barely anyone cares about (Bobby Moore aside who, while a phenomenal player, doesn't come close to Stoke's achievements in the international stage). I'm surprised you haven't listed the world champion of plane spotting. Being absolutely instrumental in winning two world cups for his country, and performing at exactly the moment England needed him to perform on the absolute biggest stage - it's a quite surreal talent. His performance against NZ in the world cup final was akin to Messi against France in November. It's hard to find anything else that compares to it's almost mythical brilliance. In addition to that he goes and produces the greatest individual performance the sport has ever seen at Headingly against one of the best sides in the world in the sport's most prestigious series and does similar again in 2022 while casually smashing records all over the place in conjunction with carrying his country to success. When you then factor in all the shit he's been through outside of cricket - I just hope Hollywood have got a decent cast for the movie. P.s the story isn't even over yet - He couldn't do it in India as well could he? Think he's already married, mate

Admittedly, it's TalkShite, but not a sign of Ben Stokes in the top ten of English cricketers, let alone "greatest ever English sportsman" 🤣 talksport.com/betting/1385645/top-10-english-cricket-players/Happy to accept that he occupies this exalted position in your head alone, which is entirely fair enough, although the usual histrionic nonsense of course, unless you want to point me in the direction of something that has him at the head of that list of English sportsmen. I'll even take best ever English cricketer if you can find any independent assessment that puts him up there 😉

Such a poor turnout at the One Day Cup final at TB yesterday, about a third full.
Congrats to Leicestershire, one of the smaller counties. Nice to see them take a pot home. Hampshire rather blew it. You should be getting 50 off 41 balls with 5 wkts left.
Not sure what the answer is, if there is one, to the lack of interest in this compo which used to be a showcase final. T20 and The Hundred appear to have put paid to that. Sad, as 50 over ODIs and the WC are clearly still big things so a failing domestic 50 over comp is a bit alarming.

Definitely the right decision. Brook will go as the spare batsman but is much more versatile than Roy.

Does anyone outside of England play this daft format? I’m a bit if a traditionalist ( grumpy twat) but if there has to be a short form cricket it might as well be consistent with the rest of the world.

Well they play T10 on the subcontinent so not quite that daft yet! I can’t read the article as it’s behind a paywall but what are the suggestions? I heard it was simply a case of making it T20 again but keeping the teams?

Sadly, it seems The Hundred isn't going anywhere.

I heard it was simply a case of making it T20 again but keeping the teams? 10 overs! What fresh hell is this? Lol. T10 actually makes more sense than The Hundred in many ways. If people want 2hrs of entertainment (like football or rugby or, perhaps more pertinently, to fit in with other countries' ideas of sport 😉) then that's probably the way to do it. None of this five ball over nonsense and it's far enough away from T20 to be distinct whereas the Hundred is just 20 balls different. What's the point! On the down side, and I've never seen a game to be honest, I imagine it's literally just trying to smash almost every ball out the ground. Like baseball. Which is perhaps the point!

I went to a 100 game at Edgbaston last year, embarrassing razzmatazz and basically tip and run cricket. Better entertainment last Saturday at Caverswall CC.

It was ok-ish. No desire to go again. Agree completely about the pointless, almost childish, razzmatazz but then it's all about getting young kids interested so it makes sense from the marketing perspective I suppose. Kind of the worst aspect for me, having grown up supporting Warwickshire, Stoke and England is that I have absolutely no interest or allegiance really in any of the teams because they are a mish mash of other counties' players and other countries. Still, it did well financially this year apparently and the stadia are usually full, so I suspect I'm too long in the tooth for it, and the ECB won't care about my lack of interest if they can get four bums on seats from family attendance.

Good start by England v Ireland 60-0 off 4 overs.
Can see a huge score here.

Never ever play an international at Bristol again.
That was embarrassing from the groundstaff, and I've seen better drainage down at the local park cricket pitch.......

Just a small unimportant thing, but can someone explain why overs are now given as, say, 31.6 instead of 32? I don't see the distinction.

Bit last minute but would there be an appetite for a fantasy league for the world Cup?

Brilliant, thank you. Come on Oatcakers. Starts tomorrow so plenty of time to get your teams in.
