Been great viewing so far this morning. Some excellent bowling, Bairstow and Stokes fighting back and Kohli being a massive minge.

That’s just shit from Stokes. I wouldn’t have him in the side if he’s going to bat like that every game.

A good catch but Stokes doing his best to give up his wicket. Stupidity.

Mindless batting from the captain. Indefensible.

Love it when Bairstow starts going nuts.

Two identical catches yesterday and today, one out and one not out. That can't be right.

Two identical catches yesterday and today, one out and one not out. That can't be right. The soft signal rule is a load of bollocks, just let the third umpire make a decision based on the footage and if there’s any doubt give it not out. That was a joke…….

Two identical catches yesterday and today, one out and one not out. That can't be right. The soft signal rule is probably one of the most ridiculous rules in the game. The umpire hasn’t got a clue if it’s a clean catch in these situations so they make their decision based on the reaction of the players. The Root catch yesterday looked more a catch than this one but the soft signal was given not out as the players didn’t look sure.

Broad just doesn’t offer any kind of threat against right handers.

India are absolutely bossing this game.
Looks like we’ll be chasing 450+ in the 4th innings in how ever long India reckon it will take them to bowl us out - 3 1/2 sessions, maybe 4 and a bit.
We will need the mother of miracles to avoid a heavy defeat in this game.

Test cricket is already facing significant challenges. It can ill afford the abysmal over rates and blatant time wasting that seems to be the norm. The authorities need to crack down severely on this kind of shite or risk turning even more people away from red ball cricket.

There's a time and a place for batting like that and today really isn't one of those times. Agreed. Not everything can be excused by the caveat of ‘This is the new way England play.’ There will always be times when it doesn’t work, of course, but equally, there are times when you don’t try it. There’s a world of difference between that and the notion that unless it’s flat out attacking it’s boring.

I want to ask a stupid question.
We're in the height of summer. The light at 7 pm was absolutely fine for batting. If the teams are 16 overs short at the end of the day, why not just keep going until they get them in or the light fails?

That’s just shit from Stokes. I wouldn’t have him in the side if he’s going to bat like that every game. I’ve just caught the highlights from yesterday’s play. What a ridiculous innings from Stokes. I hadn’t realised he was on his third life when he was dismissed. Brain dead stupid. His stupid fucking laugh at getting caught after another wild slog was particularly annoying. As his batting has been pretty much the entire summer. Someone needs a serious word. Because he is beyond reckless just now.

I said this in the last Test and was basically told to let him off.. interesting if this continues along with his brain dead batting approach.

The best I can see is England chasing 420 if India add only another 100 runs with their 6wkts left. Otherwise, it could easily be 500+ if England get sloppy.

Well, we've got some early wickets which is great as are now into the tail
Less great is our reversion to trying to bump batsmen out rather than bowl then out. After all, that has been such a big success in the past.
Not.
In the battle of Brawn vs Brain, it's fair to say we know where Ben Stokes' preference lies.

It’s such a waste of talent, he only has to look at Bairstow to see how you can play an aggressive style of cricket without being reckless. If he bats like that every game he’s going to fail probably 8 out of 10 innings.

I'd love to get my hopes up about this and see another dramatic run chase where the ball gets slapped all over the place again, but it looks to be a classic Edgbaston test pitch. Innings totals decreasing with each successive one.
If we get many more than 250 that'll be impressive and I'd wager that India are already out of sight, irrespective of how many Bumrah manages to smash over the ropes.

I think we have done pretty well today. In the circumstances to chase 380 is a much better outcome than I was expecting. The top 3 now need to start earning their match fees.

If that’s right about the pitch at Edgbaston (it seems right from my vague recollections) it makes the decision to put them in first look even more ridiculous. It's not right! Leastways, it's only happened twice in the last 10 tests, one of which was a dismal innings defeat to the Windies. The first innings has only been the top score in three of the last 10 tests (the third was a rain affected game with only 1 and 1/2 innings completed); second innings 3 times and 3rd innings four times. Btw - of those 10 tests 5 were won by the team batting 1st, 3 by the team batting second and 2 were drawn. Which is sort of what you expect; a mixed bag but odds say you are netter off batting first (mainly, it would seem, because of the advantage of batting in the third innings!).
