Remember they had a half decent side. It said in the Sentinel they were bringing 6000, they bought about 1000 at best.

They were a bit like Oldham later.. Ex Everton and a mixture of ageing international Think they beat us 2-1 at home, bo idea how. We should have buried them. One of my earlier games. I remember Gary Stanley scoring. Possibly Bob Latchford. Both ex Everton. Don't remember a big crowd.

Very Surprised if the Sentinel said they were bringing that many ..as many clubs even in the top flight were struggling to get gates in the teens or very low 20k , was the era that FV & unemployment started to really impact upon attendances ..not just us but throughout the division ..

To Be fair I just assumed would be no footage of it at all. I don't remember them wearing blue. I think we were linked with Latchford which is why I remember it so well. He had a great season for them.

Latchford had a good season, but their top scorer was a certain Robbie James who hit an impressive 15 league goals from midfield. They did the double over us ☹️ and finished 6th.

They were top for a while this season. Not sure if they made Europe or not but vaguely remember them playing Carl Zeiss Jena in Europe live on Welsh TV but that may have been Wrexham or Newport thinking back.

They just about survived in 84/85 but went down to the 4th Division in 85/86. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Swansea_City_A.F.C._seasons

Very sad indeed. He never settled at Stoke apparently…..

I was working in Swansea at the time and joined a Swans coach for the Stoke game. Yes I remember Swans going top and if I hadn't figured it out at the time their fans kept reminding me. At some point I fell asleep and was disturbed by a guy asking for my nomination for man of the match. Far from awake I mumbled 'Paul Bracewell' but he didn't hear me and said who? Rapidly entering consciousness I offered 'Ante Raikovic' and made it back safely to the 'Ugly, lovely town'. I still think of them as my second team.

Funny how you remember small things but while Robbie James played for us in 83/84 we had an away match on what was then a plastic pitch at QPR. Robbie announced ahead of the game that the artificial pitch would suit his style perfectly. We all thought it was totally the wrong surface for a thick set fella like him! QPR beat us 6-0

Norwich at home Boxing Day 1983, down at the Stoke End. A belter from outside the box to the right. We had a good view of it in the Butler St.

Think James scored at Sunderland in a 2-2 draw when Barker introduced the POMO nonsense.
I remember the 6-0 at QPR as a kid. Midweek game. Radio Stoke used the Brazil Goooooooooal jingle every time someone scored. Got my hopes up 6 times that night. They then changed it to a 'Oh No' when was the opposition scoring.
