Was a great night. I was right in line with the first goal in the Butler Street. Can remember it like yesterday.
Stunning finish.
Can remember Lee Sandford with a dodgy perm marking Kanchelskis out of the game.

What a night. It feels like yesterday but watching that it feels like a different era. Incredible what a strong team they put out. Virtually all of them household names, even their fringle players like Dion Dublin
By contrast, I'd think no-one outside the fans of the third division could put a name to any of our players apart from Stein

I was thinking about toddy orlygsson today and the thread on Oldham and how much abuse he got, for being a ‘Judas’ going there when he did.
Not a post to have a pop at Oldham, just thought it somehow captured how far they’ve fallen, albeit, very slowly!

Gleghorn, what a player, if only we had someone of his ilk again.

Remember this game in all it's glory, it was a great night.
I have very little recollection of the second leg though despite being there.....

I'm sure I say this every time this clip pops up on here. But my abiding memory of that win is that there was a Man Utd fan in the middle of the Stoke End seats wearing a white long sleeve top, who was stood up conducting the Man United fans when the equalizer was scored. I've never seen the Boothen End direct a chant at a single fan, from the length of the ground, like "Who's the wanker in the white?" that night. Seconds later Stein scored the winner and the rest is history.

What a night. What pride the following day.
What a sensation of a striker. Still the halcyon days of my 40 years of following Stoke.

Stein didn't play in the second leg did he? I vaguely remember being sat with Man U fans and those around us thinking that whoever replaced him was Stein and how he wasn't very impressive.

Sharpe and McClair seem to remember.

Possibly our only shot on the night

Pretty sure was 1-1 draw. Yeah he scored...... Rebound from save by keeper seem to remember but after my memory or lack of it from OT replay could be very wrong.

Yeah Steino played in the second leg. Lou played Simon Sturridge alongside him instead of Bognor and l remember the commentator commenting on the physical similarity of the two of them.

That makes sense. Was pretty sure was Sturridge up top as he didn't make any impact at all. In fact until he scored v Notts County when Cherry lost his footing he was a bit useless.

Gleghorn, what a player, if only we had someone of his ilk again. Vranic reminds me of Gleghorn a bit I would've liked to see Gleghorn get on the end of Vrancic's corners and free kicks. For a creative left-footed midfielder it's easy to forget just how good he was in the air.

It was a great time to be a Stoke fan at high school with a couple of Man Utd fans there.
It might be the first time in 28 years I've seen the highlights, and I didn't realise Dion Dublin scored, meaning 50% of his goal output for Man Utd was against Stoke. Here's Dion playing the dube (an instrument he invented and not Michael Duberry himself) with Ocean Colour Scene:

Maybe it’s nostalgia. Maybe it’s memories of being a 14 year old but what a time to really fall in love with Stoke City.
Macari, Gleghorn, Vinnie, Sandford and that little pocket of magic we were blessed with, Mark Stein. What a magical player and what a magical time to be a Stoke fan.
He really was magic. My favourite player of all time. The Golden One!

We’d beaten Boro and Forest away prior to it and we were looking great
Then in typical Stoke fashion we lost at home to Southend the following saturday
