I was there a couple of weeks ago, in Pompeii on the Saturday and a massive thunderstorm with biblical rain for hours, the forum was ankle deep in water, power cuts so no cafe or toilets were open, drenched right through for hours, you could imagine what it was like on the days of the eruptions. If it goes then there is a lot of people living close by.

Was reading some papers on Campi Flegrei a while back, things are definitely happening as the ground has risen by quite some margin which has caused numerous cracks to open up and those cracks are venting gasses from way down in the earth. One entire town, Pozzuoli, has risen by >4m www.nature.com/articles/s43247-023-00842-1
