That's why Ince prefers to turn inside onto his left foot, when playing on the right. It's so obvious & that's why the left backs will 'show' him the outside. Blame the Manager for putting him on the right. O'Neill thinks that he can play as an attacking right back, so that's why he plays him there. He's never any good there though, as proved yesterday.

Because I'm guessing the OP was thinking of Ince when he started the thread and for me, watching him yesterday, it showed his ineffectiveness to create anything of note. I wasn't 'picking' on Ince. I try not to 'pick' on anyone tbh. And yes it applies to other players too. But it affected Ince's contribution more than anyone else's yesterday, so I thought I'd add my opinion. Not Ince especially - it's an obvious flaw in many players' games. Not saying you should be able to hit screamers or accurate 40 yard passes with both feet, but the ability to make a simple pass (or even a mediocre cross) with both feet makes a huge difference. If you are very obviously one footed it makes the defender's job so much easier. The thing with Ince is that he's a defenders dream, you know he will push down the right wing then turn back. Anticipate that and he loses the ball as he often does. He has a lot of talent but appears to not make the best of it, a great shame.

Yes you can Just go into the back yard and kick a tennis ball against the coal house door for hours on end with both feet It works These days it’s probably the conservatory door!

Yes. And, like lots of other aspects of football and life, the player has to have tbe drive to want to. And therein lies the problem. If Ince had drive he would be doing much more to compete for a place. And strengthening his weak foot would make him far more of an option as he's so limited in that regard! I was quite shocked but he did put one good right footed cross in at Derby!

Yes, and it's a fucking crime that every professional player cannot use both, it's like a joiner saying they can't use a chisel.

In one of the many books about George Best it placed a massive onus on his two footed ability that made him such a great player. I read somewhere George Best could put a swerve shot into the net from the corner spot with either foot

When I was at school we had a gamesmaster named Denis Wilshaw who knew a thing or two about football. He practically ordered me to use my left foot more. When I eventually hung up my boots at the age of 55 I probably scored more goal with my left foot than my right so thank you sir

Yes you can, best to be done from a early age , you are taught very early in coaching that practice does not make perfect, practice makes permanent, if you practice something wrong, it will still be wrong, good practice makes perfect, the coaches at the academy will be installing this into every young player, there should be no excuse for a professional football player to at least be adequate with their lesser foot.

Yes most definitely you can and it's one of my biggest irritations seeing a pro trying to use his stronger foot when the ball is aching to be belted with his weaker. As a kid after a kick about with my old man it was always a case of 'last 20 minutes nothing but your left.' I hated it and got a ticking off if I accidentally used my right, but it put me in a good position when playing as an adult. I scored last night in a 7-a-side with my left and I'm just past 50! It still feels totally unnatural, but it works.

I’d imagine so as I was always told I’d got two left feet 🦶

I vaguely recall that Paolo Maldini started as a right back but couldn't get a breakthrough and so trained himself to master playing with his left. I think there was a similar story with Tom Finney, who was a right winger who couldn't get in the England d team ahead of Stan, and so transformed himself into a left winger. Maybe I invented both of those stories, though? Those stories sound about right.
One of the finest two-footed players I've ever seen was David Ginola. He disclosed that when he was a promising teenager at his first French club, Toulon, he was a right winger. The manager took him aside one day and pointed out that he wasn't likely to get a game on the right wing, since they already had a very good player there who was only a bit older than Ginola, but more experienced.
However, they were weak on the left side of the team, so he advised Ginola to go away and practice his (weaker) left foot. A few months later he broke into the team as their left winger aged 18, and never looked back.
Also someone mentioned George Best earlier. He used to tell the story about deciding one day that he'd only use his left foot in the next game, basically to amuse himself. (He was naturally right footed). Anyhow, it was all going to plan until after about 20 minutes, someone passed to him on his right foot and as instinct kicked in, he forgot himself and had a shot at goal with his right.

I’m not sure. I was naturally quite a dirty tackler. My instinct was always to lunge in with both feet for maximum damage.
Oh you meant… nevermind.
