Just wanted to start a thread for local musicians that are worth listening too. Love hearing local musicians doing well. There’s some great tunes out there.
Some of my favourites:
Average Joe Shader Dan Croll Merrym’n All the young Call me Ishmael

Might be also worthwhile to highlight little known small music venues locally too. Outside of the Sugarmill, The Underground and Eleven up Sandyford are there anymore venues?

This will be a great thread if a local gig guide could be shoe horned in😀 I always seem to struggle for info when it comes to local gigs.

I'm out of area but do come Sugarmill and Eleven sometimes, and always nice to see decent local bands given support slots. Tend to go Bilston Robin and occasionally Chester Live Rooms too as also good supporters of new bands

I've only really listened to All the Young and The Blue Collars so it will be good to hear of some more local acts

Foxlowe Arts Centre in Leek too. They've got a couple of cracking bands coming up, The Damn Truth and When Rivers Meet. The only way you'll get young bands from Stoke getting an opportunity is to support the venues who'll give them a start.

Saw These Wicked Rivers at Eleven on Tuesday, they're from Derby so not exactly Staffs/Stoke but it's more to highlight the quality of music you can find at a local venue.

It would be remiss of me not to use this as an excuse for a gratuitous plug for our own shows at A500 MusicWe only put a handfull of shows on a year and we're as good as sold out for 2021 but it's always worth taking a look at what we do in case it's your kind of music... With tickets costing a paltry £12 and the fact that you can bring your own booze makes it a cheap night out. Give us a try sometime, you might enjoy what we do.

Honey Rider, singer/guitarist Jason Huxley often does pub gigs. For older rock peeps there’s a band called Hollywood Nights who feature a Meatloaf tribute section in the act. Also an ex working men’s’ club on London Road, Stoke is named Jollees and features quite a few tribute nights. But people are right to question: where do you go to on the Net to find a dedicated list of what’s on? Other places: karaoke @ Old House At Home, acoustic night at Robin Hood, Penkhull and open mic night at the Glebe Stoke but how do we know when/if stuff is on?

This used to be a great resource www.stokegigs.co.uk/Sadly and probably because of covid, it currently has no listings.

The only way I can find gigs is by checking websites of bands I like but then you’re not being introduced to new music. It’s a shame, surely an in depth site which advertises local gigs would be a real money spinner for someone🤷🏻♂️

I have to hold my hands up and admit I never listed any of our three shows this year, largely due to the fact they were all almost guaranteed sell outs at our reduced covid capacity, Worth checking the Crewe one out anyway as there are a number of Stoke venues listing on there (ie Eleven) www.crewegigs.com/I might even email the owner of that site and ask whats going on.

Everything is a little weird at the moment... Nick Cave {Warren Ellis Dirty 3}, The Ruts, Spear of Destiny all playing recently locally like a wishlist from 1980.. and Weller coming up? And I think Robyn Hitchcock at the Foxlowe.. Very strange time looop... Missed all of the above through not knowing or not bothering with the expense and/or rigmarole.. Nick Cave £60+ shame... hey ho... I think I bought an old Triumph 2000 in 1980 for about £60..
Hoping to catch Bob Mould in the new year where I'll now doubt shout out some inanety if he plays this.. obtuse local references can rev me up....

I've become out of touch with local music, so I've queued a few of the links above to listen to. I did manage to catch Dreamwave's only ever gig a few years ago: soundcloud.com/dreamwaveband/my-loveI like Filth but haven't seen them live yet: I enjoyed Honey (what is it with these bands having such difficult names to google?) before lockdown: Kira Mac (in full rock band mode) has a gig coming up at The Rigger: HoneyBox looks a good channel for Staffs/Cheshire music: www.youtube.com/c/HoneyBoxLive/videosI've probably missed a few local gigs due to Facebook's crappy algorithm changes after 'liking' local bands on Facebook. This used to be a great resource www.stokegigs.co.uk/Sadly and probably because of covid, it currently has no listings. The only way I can find gigs is by checking websites of bands I like but then you’re not being introduced to new music. It’s a shame, surely an in depth site which advertises local gigs would be a real money spinner for someone🤷🏻♂️ There used to be one, but it was definitely more a labour of love than any kind of money maker: web.archive.org/web/20070606035826/http://stokerockscene.co.uk:80/There also used to be a really good local music show on Radio Stoke, but it was sacked off for what became BBC Introducing (which isn't bad, but I preferred what it was before).
