1st February 1975
Stoke City (1) 4 Manchester City (0) 0 Moores 44, 84, Hudson 68, Hurst 87 Attendance: 32,007
Stoke City: Shilton, Marsh, Mahoney, Pejic, Smith, Skeels, Moores, Greenhoff, Hurst, Hudson, Salmons Man City: MacRae, Hammond, Donachie, Doyle, Booth, Oakes, Summerbee, Bell, Royle, Hartford, Tueart
I was on the Boothen and a few thoughts here:
1.Not a substitute in sight, when did all that nonsense start?! 2.A week later we beat Spurs 2-0 away (Greenhoff, Hudson) in front of 22,000 people at White Lane. So we got 50% more fans than Spurs! One day you're right there, then something slips! 3.Our line up was not too shabby! 4.RIP Ian Moores, I remember being propped up at the bar in Sammi Belles in Newcastle at closing time with him one night, it can't have been more than 2 or 3 years before he tragically died at such a young age. 5.Peter Shilton was a lot better for us than conventional wisdom will have you believe. One of the top 3 keepers in the world at the time and anyone who thinks otherwise is nuts!

"Brian Moore's Head Looks Like the London Planetarium".
In the Derby game look out for Hudson appearing to pat Gemmill on the head, while actually depositing a huge cow pat of Derby mud on his dome. Cue Gemmill going uncharacteristically ballistic.

Last week on said Big Match Revisited their was Stoke City v West Ham in which Shilton made some absolute world class saves (2-1 home win & the most softest penalty ever...), and also the Birmingham City away game in which Sir James of Greenhoff scored THAT beauty in a 0-3 away win, which was commentated by another great of that era Hugh Johns ITV4...Big Match & The Sweeney. Stuff the rest of the telly!

Was this the game when Summerbee took his shirt off and threw it at Pej in front of the Boothen Paddock? No it was Dennis Tueart and it was a cup game, night match. From memory (sketchy) we won 1-0. Tueart was skinning Pej that night but Pej just grabbed hold of him as he went past........the ball went past or Tueart went past but never both together .Tueart got that pissed off with Pej grabbing his shirt, he took it off and threw it at Pej and it landed on the grass just in front him, much to the delight of the Boothen and Boothen Paddock. Whilst Dennis was reminstrating with the ref, Pej picked up his shirt, wiped his face and threw it back down on the pitch again. Proper old school footie, not like the precious pre school shite we have nowadays.

I remember the game well but was surprised to see Eric Skeels in the line up. What a servant he was! He must have been about 48 by then? ( a quick google check tells me he was actually 37!)
Maybe Bloor had broken his leg?

Summerbee had his shorts ripped off by Pejic. Summerbee had to change his shorts on the half way line thus exposing a pair of pyschadelic orange swimming trunks or underpants. Don't know what game it was but would be mid 70's I guess.
