Or since we have been consigned to the dreadful Midlands League we are off your radar. Pissed off with the move to the land of the Yam Yams. Being brought up in Whitchurch we always had much more in common with the north than midlands. Be interesting though to see how we fare.

I did see it but thought it too far from the potteries to be of significance The FA Vase and Trophy draws are also out. Midlands League, oh dear, we may as be in it as got teams like Rocester in the league. But they had the Isle of Man in the Northern section, and recently moved them to the southern section, so may get a trip there if they allow us in.

Stone are playing at the old Meir KA ground now. So could reasonably close for a few if they get a home tie.

Away at Leamington in todays draw for the 2nd qualifying round www.thefa.com/competitions/thefacup/fixturesNantwich are at home, Hanley at home v Chasetown if they win the replay, Hednesford are at home, Buxton v Stafford if both win their replays, Tamworth, Witton, Warrington Town are away

It really is a gigantic effort for a team like Hanley to even think about reaching the First Round proper never mind the 3rd Round.
I think there is only 2 or 3 teams left below the National League Levels now and still 3 games to go to the 3rd Round.
That would be like winning the lottery.
Marske hammering Chester was the biggest upset in this Round I suppose.

Marske hammering Chester was the biggest upset in this Round I suppose. It is, but I must admit I hadn't realised just how strong a side Hanley had. Out of ALL of the top non-leagues locally, Hanley have the best players by far. The other clubs have decent players and some ex-professionals, but the likes of Shotton, Dickinson, Dodds and Dagnall could still easily hold their own in the National League at least.

A shame for Hanley, but a good run at their level, I assume they missed Shotton after his red card on Saturday ? A couple of good looking fixtures this weekend Marine v Wrexham Tamworth v Notts County www.thefa.com/competitions/thefacup/fixtures

Yes definitely, though this happens in non-league quite regularly. Suddenly a team playing at a lower level get a bit of financial backing, or investment (usually from an individual) and are able to attract players playing 2,3 or 4 divisions higher. They often (but not always) then storm the league they are in and sometime go on a run of winning 2,3 leagues until they reach their level or the funding stops. This happened with Basford who were in Notts regional League and 10 years later in the National League Premier Division, with Carruthers as manager. Other teams burn out, this happened with a team called Shaw Lane, started at the very bottom in 2012, went up through leagues to the Northern Premier, got into the 1st round of the FA Cup and dissolved in 2018. Don't know about Hanley's situation but good luck to them. You get non-league teams who have burning ambitions and others who want to stay at the level they are at. E.g Sheffield FC. they wouldn't want promotion because they say their costs would rise too much and they are working to a playing budget for that level. I think they have a wage cap around £100 a game (maybe gone up recently not sure), while there are other teams in their league paying some players £400 + a game Crowds don't always go up enough to cover the costs. You get teams who finish top and refuse promotion because they can't afford to compete at the higher level. But 0-1 against Brackley away is a very decent result for a team at their level. They are a very strong non-league team and usually thrash teams at Hanley's level. Well done to them.

You can have your World Cups, Champions League and all that other big time bullshit. For me personally there is nothing more exciting in football than watching that 3rd round draw.

Burton v Port Vale in round 2, a Staffs derby I’ll be going this one, albeit it may be shifted for television. Vale fans on their forum are confident (over?) about this, unsurprising after the thrashing of Accrington Stanley.
