I've given up having a pop at Gareths team selections now, but Mount??? Surely with their back line, pace, pace and more pace is the order of the day? He loves Mason for some reason. I get that he’s not blessed with explosive pace but I watched him quite closely last game and he has so much movement. Gaps were opening up all over the place, he’s a clever player and doesn’t get enough credit. He is obviously an excellent footballer but of all the attacking players so far, he has comfortably been the most ineffective in my opinion. Let's hope he saves his best for tonight though ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/0m0lbCuTEBzaRn6f8QaM.gif)

Rumours of back 3 Pickford Walker Stones Maguire Trippier Rice Phillips Shaw Mount Kane Sterling I’d rather we stick with the 4-2-3-1, we were too open in the last game though so I can understand the change. I think this helps Italy a bit though by taking more pace out of our side, hopefully it’s just a rumour and we have the same starting 11 as the last game.

Would love him to smash one in the top corner but his role is more nuanced than that. You’ll have to excuse me Vincent I’ve started early 😀

Bad planning. On holiday in Lynmouth. Pubs all fully booked No TV in the hotel lounge. Got to watch it with the missus in the hotel room on a poxy 18inch TV 55 years waiting What a bummer 😡 Know the feeling. Spent our FA Cup final in a hotel room in the Lake District with the wife. What's more we lost. Tonight WE WILL WIN.

Blimey - the scenes already at Wembley!
Don't think too many will be sober by kick-off

How much is a decent size TV - 500quid.Failing that tell the hotel owner to bring his family TV into the hotel lounge. If I owned a hotel I would go the extra mile to help my paying guests. 😉 Guys obviously not a footie fan

You’ll have to excuse me Vincent I’ve started early 😀 I watched him in v Denmark and early on he pressed plenty and moved to open space. But the first 20 mins were on mobile in the metro and a bit blurry in the tunnels, so that's my excuse if I'm being dumb. Still, I can see why Southgate might start him. Burn his energy to wear down the opponents then get more edge on.

Didn't get much sleep last night, way too excited. It's brilliant to have a team and manager who seem likeable, some really exciting players, and be in a fucking final for the first time in my life.
But what to wear? All my England shirts are back home (stupid covid) so do I go: Stoke shirt, England rugby away shirt, or white t-shirt from a brewery to try and fit in with the colours.

Can't be the only one wishing this final was on earlier. Not me mate, 12 in LA. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/kwfoKwtHI0jglJZ4qZf6.gif) And I don't have to go to a wedding tomorrow, so it doesn't matter if I'm drinking for 12 hours like after Ukraine.

I don’t remember all this hype in 1966.
Then again, the world is a very different place.
Come on England. Let’s get the job done.

I guess everyone went to the tea rooms and wished each other a jolly good show before relieving stress by giving a good thrashing to their manservant Jeremy. And that's the sort of thing you did behind closed doors.

8pm really is a shit kick off time for this final.
Saying that, it'll definitely add to the atmosphere in the stadium as most people will be arseholed.

I don’t remember all this hype in 1966. Then again, the world is a very different place. Come on England. Let’s get the job done. In 1966 the English public didn't remotely think it would be 55 years before we reached another final, we would surely lift lots of trophies in the immediate years to come ... today's public now know the reality of the situation and realise that this might actually be a once in a lifetime moment.

Maybe I spent too long down there.

Plus, with having to stop and change the horses about every 20 miles, it took a day or two to get to London

Interesting piece in the paper about that today...much of the footie public (and Press) didn't give England much chance of winning the Cup apparently. Some underwhelming performances leading into the tournament and Ramsey being seen as a bit aloof and not a motivator reduced the expectations. Plus you're right in that everything is dramatised to the nth degree these days!

Talking about remembering things in 66,
I remember hearing of someone who drove from Longton to Kidsgrove through the Potteries during the England v WG final (remember there was no D road then) and saw just a couple of other cars along the whole way.
I don't know if anyone disputed it, everyone I knew watched the match on our 12 inch black and white TVs.

The Toxic AvengerWhat is your head saying? What is your heart saying? What kind of game are we going to see? I think if this game plays out 10 times, we win 3, maybe 4 times. I make them favourites. Can see it being a tight game mate, possible extra time. Suspect Italy will sneak it but anything can happen in a final.

Very true. In 1970, I was supremely confident we would win again.
