I watched from the start. Maybe I like the mountain so much. But watching a breakaway trying to form at the start and alaphillpe doing well for the first half. I just love seeing all the places where I’ve spewed my ring up on the ventoux Ah, in that case, I can completely see where you are coming from in terms of your personal experience 👍 Really good point too about how breakaways form and actually seeing that. It’s one of the aspects of full day coverage that I think gives an insight into something which is fascinating and often neglected when people try to understand the sport. There are so many machinations for a break to be successful. All the rivalries and politicking and bargaining, etc make for great viewing.

I like the whole tactics of a stage. Yep no real fireworks on the ventoux but overall a great stage. It’s all about Cav for two days now

Changing the subject slightly I only got round to watch the SKY documentary on Marco Pantani (the last winner of the TDF and Giro in the same calendar year) last night. A troubled soul, but what a mountain climber he was. Recommend it to anyone that hasn't seen it....... On your recommendation I watched after today’s stage and before the game. Wonderful sporting day. Thank you.

Can only understand bits and pieces of the commentary but breaks up the monotony on dull stages and the analysis afterwards is always excellent.

The coverage on gcn is excelled. I like Sean Kelly and Dan Lloyd. And wiggins on the motor bike is funny. However millar is brilliant on itv Although he is very polarising, I enjoy Kirby on commentary when he’s paired with Sean Kelly in particular. Kelly’s eye for racing is still second to none and I can accept Kirby’s faults as I find his enthusiasm to be endearing rather than annoying. I was brought up on David Duffield though, so that’s probably why. Hatch and Lloyd are great, but Smith on co-commentary does nothing for me. I can’t take to Millar at all, but that’s based on how he shat on his team mates and decried them as losers who could only win races due to doping and that’s why they implicated him, which turned out to be utter bullshit. The same way that he said he kept some gear in a hollowed out book

The same way that he said he kept some gear in a hollowed out book I agree, I like listening to Carlton Kirby and when he rambles on as he's so enthusiastic and clearly loves the sport. I think Sean Kelly, and Brian Smith (although he sounds miserable), are both good to listen to as well. I really like Rob Hatch and Dan Lloyd as well. I find Ned Boulting quite boring and rigid in his commentary, and although Millar is obviously knowledgeable I don't enjoy listening to him. Only negative on Eurosport is Orla on The Breakaway as I can't be doing with her.

One for the break, or a sprint today?

History suggest breakaway but you wouldn’t have seen the break winning yesterday but after double ventoux the pelaton took it easy.
Enough climbing today that if a decent break takes hold yellow might leave them to it.

There doesn't appear to be many teams left who want to work on the front for a sprint anyway. DQS and Alpecin Fenix are the two that spring to mind, all the other teams would probably be happy for the break to go all the way to the finish, and try to save their legs for the Pyrenees.
I think if the break is more than 5 or 6 riders, they will go all the way, but anything smaller than that, someone will get on the front and bring it back.

Only watched the Ventoux stage highlights last night as I was at a football match on Wednesday night. It's still messing with my head that WvA won a stage with a double ascent of Ventoux when away in a breakaway with Alaphillipe, Ellisonde and Mollema.

I think today boils down to whether or not DQS are going to try to control the race for Cav to have a chance of win number 34. If they don't then any breakaway stands a good chance of staying away today.

Looking at the break today, they've got no chance.
Should be a sprint, so a big next couple of hours for DQS and Cav. They produced an absolute masterclass of a leadout for him the other day, so I expect something similar.

Terrific positioning and lead out by DQS and great finish by Cav. It's one hell of an achievement particularly after what he has been through in recent years. Here's hoping he can get through the Pyrenees and win in Paris for number 35 !
Chapeau !

Wow that was a great finish from Cav, had to fight back to Morkov a few times after losing his wheel. Outstanding stuff. Love how you get a different version Cav for every post race interview. So much charisma about him.
I think Orla is good Deeside, she knows her cycling onions for sure but plays the presenter role on telly. Writes some decent stuff for Rouleur magazine too. Wears some bizarre clothes mind.

Congratulations to Mark Cavendish on a fantastic achievement, not least for his humility afterwards in refusing any comparisons to Eddie Merckx.

Just watched 30 mins or so at lunch. Brutal start to today's stage. It looks hot again.
The make up of the initial 5 rider break was not particularly strong, so it looks doomed to me, unless some stronger riders can get across and push on. The bunch don't want to let many go though, it's so difficult on the rolling roads. Savage racing.

Just before they started this descent I said to my son that Woods is a very sketchy descender. That’s not because I’m some wise sage either, it’s because I shit myself when I see him try to push it downhill on anything of any length. I know ‘Full gas’ is the current phrase which is in fashion, but that first 100km was absolutely eyeballs out.
