Same, I’m fucking shit scared of heights as well so most of my time on them is spent with my eyes firmly closed, they stopped for ages once and the one I was in at the time was over the fucking massive drop to the lake you go over and i was staring right down at it, my arsehole was going ten to the dozen.

An awful story to read and sadly death toll has risen every time I've seen news. A very unreliable mode of transport and sadly I suspect need a hell of a lot more maintenance than many actually get. As a kid we went on the James Bond one in Switzerland out of OHMSS and scared the wits out of me.

Bloody hell, that's a bit of a shocker - we actually took that cable car during a holiday in Lake Maggiore in 2019 ! It's one hell of a ride and does seem to rise a long way above the ground in certain parts of the journey. It must have been a horrific experience for all those on board and for everyone who witnessed it.
RIP to those who died !

Dee, I almost said " there but for the grace of God go I?"......there's so many ways in which our lives can change instantly.....I wonder how those people feel who went on the previous cable car?

I agree Big John, as you say things can change instantly - that "sliding doors" moment. I'm not keen on heights and I remember feeling uncomfortable going on the cable car, but we were with a few other people and I just went along with it. It was a relief to get off at the top - only thing was I knew we had the return journey still to come.
I would imagine it's been a sobering day for all concerned. Those that went previously must have thanked God for their safety, and those that were waiting to come back down must have been horrified watching it crash in front of their eyes.

To be honest, I didn't think anything of it at the time, other than fantastic views. I think you just assume that all the safety checks etc have been carried out without even thinking about it, same as when you board a plane or train. Tragically, sometimes terrible accidents happen, it's the price we sometimes pay for having a modern, technologically accomplished way of life.
