Known as Root Beer in the States (I think). When I was a weather forecaster on the local T.V. station in Montana in 1971, the forecast was usually preceded by an ad. for Root Beer and closed with an ad. for diapers. In at one end and out at the other all in a space of 3 minutes. Root beer is not the same, similar but different Root Beer more sarsaparilla flavoured. Cidona, now there was a horrible drink

Alpine pop was in massive bottles and went flat as fuck in about ten minutes. Panda Pops in small stubby bottles. Really sickly sweet and fizzy. Some of the drinks were really garish colours too. God knows what shit was in them. Hubbly Bubbly was a favourite in the heavy dimpled glass bottles. Fresca! The polar bear on the can. It’s frothy man. ( it was too and as sickly as fuck). That was Cresta. Awful stuff fresca was either lemon or grapefruit

Um Bongo, Um Bongo, They drink it in the Congo....... Never had it, but that line cracks me up every time! I bet proposed new ads today would never get the wording past the woke brigade.

We used to nick empty coke bottles from the back of Wolstanton Working Men’s Club and get the money by taking them down Russell St to the off-license. I’m sure he knew what we were doing at the offy but was probably a scam for him with his suppliers.

I used to collect Coke bottles to pay for my kitten's life saving operation as a kid and store them behind Wolstanton Working Men's Club. Unfortunately someone pinched them and Snuffles had to be put down

I always thought that Tizer was made locally, as there was once a Tizer bottling plant at the bottom of Rothsay Road in Normacot.
