Sadly folks this is defo happening, I was told by a family member who is close with Sam that he is defo leaving, also he is in contract but the club are prepared to let him go for free to get him off the wage bill. Shame because he is settled in the area with his young family but but the club have no intention of offering a new deal due his wages. If he's that bothered about staying he could negotiate a lower wage for himself. It's not like he'll be on his current money at a new club.

I’d have shat on MoN’s desk and been off already

I’d have shat on MoN’s desk and been off already He says he'd prefer not to go because he and his family are settled, so I'm just saying that if he really wants to stay then he can just cut down his massive contract. Maybe that would solve the problem of having a bottom end second division player on first division wages.

His time here has been blighted by injuries. His goals last season were vital but let’s be honest, take his goals away and he’s about as anonymous a midfielder as I’ve seen in the last 20 years at Stoke.
He’s been an absolute no show this season, is on massive money and for me he’s expendable. We could bring in 2 maybe 3 players on his wages alone, who’d be younger, hungrier and probably able to contribute more.

Like several of our players, he has been unlucky with injuries, almost seemed to be targeted with some of the tackles he's received He's certainly not been 100% fit for most of the season Wise recruitment - probably loans is the major task for the club in the immediate future I wonder if MON had an accurate overview of our financial woes when he signed his contract to manage us

Dpw to appalling commercial management on that basis the appalling decisions to give contracts at the level they are to the likes of Vokes and Ince etc are costing us our best players Clucas , possibly Powell some of the youngsters etc and meanwhile the contract negotiator picks up 850k a year with immunity surely at some point the spotlight will fall on the those truly accountable as even the greatest deniers haven't said the chef executive ha nothing to do with contracts .losing `clucuias ion a free is utterly ridiculous in this market in this league Unfortunately, the person operating the spot light is unlikely to shine it on themselves. How on earth has this maggot been allowed to gain such a position of power in the club. Incompetent Board have allowed him to.

I think MON alluded to having too many 30+ players and possibly they are having a bit of a cull this summer, Clucas, Allen etc + they are probably on big wages. This sort of comment from O'Neill sort of pees me off, especially when he went out and signed three well over 30's himself in Mikel, Chester and Fletcher. All of whom will no doubt be on fairly big money, two of whom are known crocks (Fletcher and Chester) and one whose legs are gone and struggles to last 90 minutes. And no doubt all three will be here again next season.

Would be happy with a P/X with Rothwell if, as reported, Blackburn are keen. It's the reference to a 'free' which threw me, given that he's under contract. I like this, MON a big fan of Rothwell, he’s versatile and will be cheaper. I’m sure they have/will activate a 1 year extension on him too.

I really can't see any reason why some make a lot of fuss about Clucas leaving! Too injury prone, not getting any younger, not good enough defensively, earns way too much (we could asume we can have two new players for his wages) and I'm not even sure he would be first choice in a midfield 3 next season!

I’d be fine with it if Allen went too. But if it was just Clucas it’s like Vokes/Gregory situation isn’t it? I know we had a market for Gregory but football wise is a poor decision. Despite knowing Gregory is wank. Vokes is way worse. And I know beggars can’t be choosers but that irked.

I hope they both go as I'm certain we can bring in good replacements for a third of what the two of them earn. They really haven't had such an impact this season either, and as said not getting any younger and injury prone as well.

Since Clucas shushed us I don’t think there has been much of a rapport between him and supporters. Probably best if he leaves so long as it doesn’t cripple us with FFP.

Ironically, I thought he had his best game all season yesterday - his pass to Smith for the goal was perfect. But, given the wages he is on, his injury record and his age and our FFP situation, it is probably best for the club that he moves on.

Like Corry Evans is more than likely to sign. But he’s 31 in July and more injury prone than anyone we have. I like him don’t get me wrong but yeah the red flags are there.

I agree Lakeland, I wasn't sure with him starting on the right, but it worked well. He's looked physically stronger since he returned. A shake up in the midfield personnel will be a good thing moving forward.

We should be hawking Clucas to Rangers and Celtic with a 3 million fee. I wouldn’t be fussed if he left as long as it improves finances. We may miss his goal scoring and the fact he links well with Powell but players come and go, it wouldn’t be the end of the world.
