Cricket can be a cruel game š¤¦āāļø Especially village cricket š Iām impressed with you scoring 90. Iād take that as a good result for the weekend. Donāt let run outs bother you. Never seemed to cause Sir Geoffrey much grief - well, apart from that one affair at Trent Bridge back in 77. š Cheers mate. Hopefully it was a one off and I don't get the yips! Ahhh the infamous Geoffrey run out antics. Assume thats the Derek Randall calamity? Must say it's been great to get out there again this weekend after such a ghastly winter and shite weather the past few weeks. Should be an exciting summer of cricket ahead with all the England games set to get some big crowds.

I always think if you run someone out (or in my case two people out), you can still redeem yourself if you get big runs. Problem is after you've run someone out it's incredibly hard to keep your head but Geoffrey just had mental strength of pure steel. We need a new Boycott/Cook.

I'm totally feeling Geoff's "head in hands" pain right now š I know we're on a footy board, we love the game and we all love Stoke. But is there a sport on the planet that has the sophistication, pressure, skill and above all, mental strength that cricket requires? It's the sport of all sports. Surely.

Only two days to go until the first test of the Summer and I canāt bloody wait! Was surprised to see New Zealand at 9/4 to win the first test so Iāve stuck a tenner on them as I think thatās an extremely generous price.
Our top seven picks itself with the only question being where Pope and Lawrence bat. Broad and Anderson will definitely play so that leaves two places left. I donāt think weāll go with a spinner so itāll probably one of Robinson or Overton and one of Wood or Stone to take the final to places.
They could pick both Robinson and Overton which would bolster our lower order batting but would mean our bowling attack would be a bit samey.
My side would be:
Burns Sibley Crawley Root Pope Lawrence Bracey Robinson Wood Broad Anderson
I honestly think New Zealand should be going into this as favourites. Theyāre playing some fantastic cricket at the moment and bar Boult have a full side to pick from. England do have the home advantage and also the majority of our side have played a fair bit of red ball cricket already so it should be a fascinating couple of tests.

Itās a severely weakened England side and itāll be a big series for the top 3, they need runs. But like you say, top seven picks itself. Couple of points, I think Leach may possibly play and is Woakes available?

I think this is the team I would pick as well. I don't feel comfortable leaving out the spinner but I would like four seamers and six specialist batsmen. It shows how difficult it is to select a balanced team when Stokes is unavailable. At least Joe Root can bowl some overs if necessary. I make NZ slight favourites however they may be a bit rusty so hopefully that is something we can exploit. At least the weather is set fair.

The weather is set fine... With a forecast like that I think Iād want a proper spinner in the side.

Looks like a good day to be batting.
Canāt help thinking we could do with a spinner rather than 4 right arm seamers... even if they are 4 good bowlers.

The Toss in Test cricket/plus white Ball cricket.
If a team wins the toss in the 1st game, should the opposition get to choose in the 2nd. game?
So you only use the toss in the 1st & 3rd game in a 3 game series , or the 1st & 5th in a 5 game series.

Wood's pace is very impressive, bowling 1 or 2 four balls every over not so impressive though.....

Williamson is some player. I was fortunate enough to be out in NZ for the 2015 World Cup. NZ were 9 down chasing a really low Australia score in the group stages and amidst the most insane pressure, Williamson won the game with one of the most casual sixes you'll ever see.
So much fun in the stands with the lager flowing.

Any reason why the whole of the stumps are blue?
Don't mind a colourful stump in limited overs or a sponsor, but white/wooden stumps for test surely?
Exceptions clearly for Strauss/McGrath foundation days etc.

Itās looking pretty ominous at the moment, my Ā£10 bet on New Zealand is looking pretty safe.
What a player Conway looks btw, you could create a pretty formidable side of South Africans that have gone on to play for other nations.
