Looks like the IPL is more abandoned than suspended noting they are talking about players going home to their families.
Such a shame but, it was a possibility in the air before the tournament started.
On the bright side, it could mean the test series with NZ in May has respective IPL players available which would be good news for that series.

Michael Parkinson reminisces about Fred Trueman...
Thought some of you might like this - not sure whether to post it on this EE Cricket or on an EE miscellaneous Footie thread, but as Parky firstly talks about Fred Trueman it's going on here. He also discusses some of his other sporting heroes, incl. Best, Charlton & Greavesie.
A quote on the written synopsis says 'The George Best anecdote from Parky is a blinder.' This starts at 16.01 mins. Must add that back in the day seeing Bestie down at the Vic numerous times + occasionally away at Old Trafford was out of this world.

I don’t think Mr Bancroft is going to be very popular in Australia......

I’ve always been of the opinion that the bowlers must have know something fishy was going on. They must have looked at the ball and wondered why it was wearing so quickly on one side. The Australian team must be fuming at this interview. It will almost certainly be end of Bancroft’s test career.

Anyone got tickets to either of the NZ tests? I'm doing day 1 at Edgbaston but barely seeing anything online around fans in stadiums. Am I right in thinking it will have 25% of fans in?

Got tickets for the first two days at Edgbaston. As it stands the capacity will be at 25% and they’ve already sold more than that so there’s going to be a fair few disappointed people in the coming days. They have applied for the match to be used as a test event for a larger crowd though so if that is approved everyone with tickets will be able to attend. I had an email yesterday saying that they’ll have an answer from the government before the end of next week.

Could be a few aussie bowlers missing the ashes after what Bancroft has said which was the bowlers knew all about the cheating.

So I've seen none of the IPL players are going to play against New Zealand which is a bit of a blow. Definitely means Foakes will keep the gloves.

Got tickets for days 1 & 2 of Lancs v Yorks at Old Trafford next week. Can't wait.
Thinking Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow might be involved after quarantine. Neither will be in the test squad for NZ without any red ball cricket under their belts.

Squad for the New Zealand series announced.... Hmmm without Stokes and Archer against very strong opposition I got a bad feeling about this series. Massively reliant on Root to get some big runs. Although to be fair, when aren't we heavily reliant on Root.

Kiwis squad looks decent: New Zealand squad: Kane Williamson (captain), Tom Blundell, Trent Boult, Doug Bracewell, Devon Conway, Colin de Grandhomme, Jacob Duffy, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Ajaz Patel, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Neil Wagner, B.J. Watling, Will Young.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see us go without a spinner, especially for Lords which has become a bit of a seamers paradise in recent times.
Sibley Burns Crawley Root Lawrence Pope Foakes Robinson Wood Broad Anderson
It’s a long tail and with Root the only batsman who’s consistently scored runs at this level the New Zealand bowlers will be kicking their lips. The good news is that all of the batsmen apart from Sibley have scored runs for their counties so look in decent touch.

I’d switch him and Lawrence round. I see he bats #4 at Surrey these days so we no longer need to hide him down at #6. That said, I think he should be batting at #3 for Surrey to see if he has what it takes to bat at the top of the order, because that is where we have our problems. And if he is as good as he looks like he could be, we need him filling one of those problem positions in the top 3.

Agreed, he’s at the stage now where he needs to start making consistent runs at this level and has probably served his time batting at 6. I still don’t think he leaves the ball well enough to bat in the top order.

That might make sense for Surrey, makes less sense for the development of a key player for England when you consider #4 and #5 “belong” to Root and Stokes. He needs up his game at the county level.

Just watching some county cricket on Sky who are showing Middlesex v Surrey.
I’ve just witnessed something quite concerning.
An 11 ball duck from Ollie Pope.
Concerning because Sky, even in that short innings were highlighting how far across the stumps Pope was standing bringing LBW into play, which is what happened when he missed a pretty straight ball. I’ve not noticed that before with Pope. Has he always played like that?
Edit... 3 balls later Foakes, who came in at #5 after Pope’s dismissal, also went without troubling the scorers. In fairness the ball was pretty good, right down Boycott’s “channel of uncertainty”. That said, no feet movement from Foakes.
Edit 2... There’s the mother of all collapses on for Surrey. They’ve gone from 135-0 to 142-6. That’s 6 wickets for 7 runs. Wonderful stuff.
