Looks like there should be plenty of cricket played today. Pitch has a decent covering of live grass and it’s another gloomy day. The perfect recipe for an Indian batting capitulation. Should have had it at Old Trafford, the sun is cracking the flags again for the second day running. After a delay this morning hopefully we’ll get unbroken play, I’ve just got a sneaky feeling for India as well really like the look of their team especially with the two spinning options as well.....

What are the rules for this in the event of further weather interruptions?
Is it the same as the county championship decider, where the team with the highest first innings score takes the trophy?

Thursday I couldn't decide whether to go to Edgbaston to watch the Bears v Lancs in the T20 or watch the Eng - Scot game. Reckon I'd have been better off at Edgbaston, and that was rained off without a ball bowled

I fancy New Zealand, they usually make short work of India when they play them in similar conditions in New Zealand. India certainly have the stronger side on paper but the conditions are much more favourable for New Zealand. I can’t see Rohit or Gill surviving very long this morning. If the game goes the full distance then India’s spinners will certainly have a big say but can their batsmen put enough runs on the board for them to play with?

If there’s no result then they will share the trophy. Luckily although we’ve lost a day it’s still technically day one due to the reserve day. Should get plenty of cricket in over the weekend but the forecast for Monday and Tuesday is looking pretty grim.

India 53-0 after 18 overs.. you just know we'd be 3 down for half the score in the same situation.

New Zealand have been really poor but fair play to Rohit and Gill they’ve cashed in on the bad balls. Our openers could learn a thing or two watching these two bat. Opening the batting isn’t just about survival, you’ve still got to try and put the bad balls away when they come. *Edit*. Since writing that post both openers have gone playing loose shots. Take no notice of them Burns and Sibley.

In other news Ollie Stone has suffered a stress fracture (quelle surprise) and is out for the rest of the Summer and possibly the Ashes.

The test final is developing nicely.
India dismissed fairly cheaply for 217, New Zealand started well reaching 101-2 at stumps. I reckon NZ will need a decent lead because batting last looks like it could be quite tricky. 300 is the minimum they need to reach.

Looks like tomorrow will be a complete washout so there’s two days left for someone to force a result. New Zealand will want to bat for the majority of the day on Tuesday and gain a 150+ lead before bowling India out cheaply again. Very hard for India to win from here, it would require them taking 18 New Zealand in two days which doesn’t seem feasible, even on this wicket.

Really like New Zealand as a team. Some great players and play the game in the right spirit.

Really like New Zealand as a team. Some great players and play the game in the right spirit. They’re a very likeable bunch, gracious in defeat and don’t make a big fuss when they win. I sat very close to their dressing room at Edgbaston and they were interacting with the fans throughout the day, certainly no egos in their team.

Such a frustrating sport, the other alternative venue Old Trafford hasn't seen a drop of rain for at least a week and we'd be into day four now......

Two full days available after today and the weather looks ok so it could still be set for a good game. We can but live in hope.

I'm up in the Manchester area too, and i've been amazed at how little rain we've had considering what's going on in the south of the country. Parks and gardens are all looking very dry and going a bit yellow! They keep forecasting showers here and there, but they never seem to materialise. They would've been able to get a bigger crowd in Old Trafford too...

We had an hours rain in the early hours of Sunday morning which was a Godsend as it saved me having to water the plants on Sunday, other that nothing. Makes a nice change for us to get the better of the weather........

Hat trick for Maharaj in the Windies v South Africa test, South Africa totally dominant again..... Pretty sharp catch that! South Africa have got some excellent players, but some very average ones too. If they could get their shit together off field they could be a real force at test level.

Things now moving along very nicely... NZ all out for 249 giving them a lead of 32.
4 sessions to go in the game.
It’s possible a positive result might happen. The final session of today may give us a good idea of where this game is heading.

Keep your eyes on the cricket folks... could turn out to be a cracker. India, at lunch, 98 ahead with 5 wickets down. 2 sessions to go.
And don’t forget, the 1st domestic T20 international of the summer kicks off at 6.30 as we host Sri Lanka.
