It appears Norway are considering a boycott. Good for them. www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/world/qatar-world-cup-boycott-2022-fifa-b1821574.htmlI still cannot believe the world's biggest sporting occasion was handed out with such clear corruption and contempt for the fans. Not to mention the 6500 slaves (at the last count) who have died building the white elephant stadiums. I'm genuinely intrigued by how our own media/journo's will spin it to try and blindside the public into thinking it's ok to support such a regime with awful human rights. Will they actually go, or will they not chance it? Wil advertisers still pump money in, or will they be afraid of being 'cancelled' as is the current trend.

Norway boycotting is like Scotland saying they will boycott though isn't it?
No one cares.
I mean they should care and we should boycott it but yeah!

I think after the last year's politicised 'knee taking' that the calls for action might be a little louder than usual.
If one team boycotts, you never know who may be next.
I can understand more prominent teams in the tournament to be reluctant to even think about boycotting, but our own media, after everything they pump down our necks, that is something i want to know how they're going to justify.

Not the main issue here, sure, but anyone know what they plan to do with these spanking new 50 / 60,000 capacity stadiums when the three week jamboree is over? It's the Olympic Stadium fiasco but many times over.

Maybe we should send some of our professional demonstrators out there to protest for such a serious cause. They could then experience the different level of policing response too and see which one they prefer.😂😂

There's probably all sorts of legal red tape preventing but imagine if the FA invited all the qualifying nations to a tournament on these shores next summer.

Adidas, Nike , Apple and Samsung all manufacturer their goods using slave labour in China So if we are happy for the sponsors to use slave labour in China , then why moan about the hosts using slave labour in Qatar ? Obviously , none of these companies or countries should be allowed anywhere near football for obvious reasons . But they are ! Parents shouldn't allow their kids to buy adidas , Nike , Samsung and Apple products but they do ! And they buy them for them As birthday presents and Christmas presents !! And tell them they look cool !!! And buy them for themselves It's a disgrace but pretending to care isn't going to help the situation Everyone who buys products made from slave labour , should just shut up and avoid being labelled hypocritical on this subject Or better still , stop buying this stuff for themselves and their kids www.forbes.com/sites/siminamistreanu/2020/03/02/study-links-nike-adidas-and-apple-to-forced-uighur-labor/

Sometimes you're just not able to avoid it, such as the case with electronics equipment. along with the big sporting brands, Uniqlo and Primark have been using forced uighur workers to make the clothes.

Wasn’t there some talk of a lot of the infrastructure being able to be dismantled and transported to Africa and then assembled again When they originally bid There was also a promise that technological developments such as enclosed air conditioned stadia would ensure the tournament could take place in June/July. Guess what, once the bribes had seen the tournament awarded no further mention of the technology and most unfortunately FIFA says the World Cup has to be moved to the winter.

I think USA/Canada/Mexico ‘26 could be good to go to as a fan though. Lots of good cities to visit if you can stomach the costs of internal flights.

They were designed for some of them to be dismantled and seating/parts used elsewhere around the world in developing nations, that was in the bid, but they probably lied about that as well

The article says they will consider a boycott in the Autumn.
It doesn't say they have or are boycotting it yet.
It also says the team are planning a protest in their opening qualifier, so no they're not boycotting the qualifiers (or anything else at present).

While it is utterly appalling that Qatar were awarded the competition, the above article does not say 6500 people have died building the stadia. It says 6500 South Asians have died while working in Qatar in the last 10 years, around 650 a year. That certainly sounds horrific, but as there's around 2 million migrant workers, how unexpected is it? If you took a random group of 2 million people living in a developing country (excluding children and old people as I assume these would not be migrant workers), how many would be expected to die in a year generally? I have no idea what this figure would be, I'd guess lower than 650, but by how much?

Calm down, I have no doubt that lots of companies use slave labour, they even had some exposed in Leicester last year, some just greenwash we know that, its trying to delve through the lies etc. My point was Samsung do manufacture in other countries not just China. We shop as ethically as possible, I never use Amazon as you can't find the supply chain, most of our purchases are ethical, the Mrs has just bought gym gear made from recycled fishing nets and other stuff like that, my new gym shorts were bamboo, as all my undies are, I bought the Mrs recycled 100% woollen stuff (small company in Yorkshire) for the winter it costs more but tends to last a lot longer, trying to stop buying man made fibre clothing where possible, we also look for the Certified B Corporation approval for staff welfare.

Norway have arguably the best centre forward in the world. It would certainly cause a stir if Haaland fired them to the world cup and then says he and the rest of the squad are behind a boycott.

I'm not sure what boycotting will achieve. Will be punishments from FIFA and unfair on players and fans. it's there and nothing will change that. . Aren't players obliged under FIFA rules also? Pretty sure the rules state that a team that withdraws is banned from the following tournament automatically
