Let’s not get carried away, he was all heart, huff and puff but the boy Dicko was a poor footballer Poor footballer compared to what, you and me? He was a limited footballer technicallly at the higher levels but he will be extremely good at football. You simply don’t make it as a pro without some ability. He was a no messing full back who wouldn't look out of place in a team from the 70s. The boy had very little technical ability.

As someone said he had enough ability to make hundreds of appearances in professional football. Even some at the highest level. Wish someone told me I could have that career with just “huff and puff” 😂

It is not all rosy over there, the owner has upset a few of the people working with the younger sides. So much so that I believe a splinter club has been formed in protest.

I did wander myself what was going on, Mick Morton Was Hanley through and through but obviously no longer at the club. Obviously I can't say too much, but the owner has upset a lot of long serving staff, most of them volunteers. This is all 2nd hand information from me, but apparently he wanted to focus less on the junior sides and the coaches of those sides have moved away and formed their own club. I have been told they will still have use of the fenced pitch opposite the car park and indeed the car park itself. So I am not sure how that will work on match day. Let me say this is all said allegedly and I am not providing this information first hand.

Decent that. They are definitely a club on the up. Why did Vale move from Hanley to Burslem? Was it simply that they had the offer of land which gave greater scope to build the Wembley of the North? Be ironic if Hanley Town managed to progress to become a League club and overtake the Vile! PS - the only time I can recall going to the site of the old Vale ground in Hanley was in the early 50s. My dad took me to see Jonah the Whale - a preserved whale which was touring the country on the back of a low loader and lobbed up at the old Vale ground which had nothing left to show that it had ever been a football ground. Unlike today, there was a “No Shit Holes” policy in Hanley at that time, so they had to move to a more appropriate area.

Yeah I put in a new toilet last month. We call it the Wembley of the West.

Who would have thought that 70 years later we'd sign that same preserved whale from Burnley.

I remember 15/20 years ago Bob Bowers tried this approach with a big Vale connection at Stone Dominoes . Don't think they made it out the North West Counties, typical Vale links

When we lived on Eaton Park in the early 70s me and my dad used to watch Eastwood Hanley. Not sure if they are still going or not.

Chuffed for Dave Kevan. Ex neighbour of mine. Career ended by an infection he picked up pre season in Africa, fucked his knee up.

Just seen that they've now signed Ryan Shotton. So that's Dicko player/manager, Dave Kevan assistant manager, with Shotton, Danny Pugh and Louis Dodds. Exciting times! Plus all the great work that Men Unite do. Good to see.

I was about to ask the same. Is someone relatively rich bankrolling this project, or are the retired players just using it as an old boys social/fitness club? It feels like there's someone conducting this with a view of elevating HTFC through the pyramid. I'm not sure stoke-on-trent is big enough for 2 pro clubs, let alone 3.

I genuinely wish them well and used to go down a few times a season, night matches / Stoke away etc. However, ( and I am not laying blame in any quarter as I am not close to the facts) it’s a real shame that Hanley Town split from the Academy, how can a community club let this fantastic youth system go? Fortunately, there is a huge support for the Hanley FC Academy so I am sure it will flourish without Hanley Town.
