To young for the World Cup And to be honest I watched very little televised football when young And Rarely watch it today I’ve always preferred live football The sound track to my early teenage years was John arlott’s Hampshire burr on test match special whilst holding a fishing rod

Sad news.
He was the last of that great pantheon of BBC commentators that were synonymous with their particular sports.
What a life though.
From his time in a tank during WWII, to seeing the birth of Formula One and being able to watch and commentate on all the champions from Fangio to Hamilton.
RIP Murray.

Mansell and Senna sparring, with James Hunt providing a laconic foil to MW's attentive commentary.Despite the advances since,F1 just seemed so much more interesting back then:
RIP.

To this day I have a hugely abiding love of bar billiards. I used to know the pubs up and down the country that still had them, hell, find me a nice village with a nice pub and a bar billiards table and I’m back. A crown green nearby wouldn’t go amiss either. Its a shame the Americanisation made pool the be all and end all of cue sports. I see that snooker takes up a lot of real estate, hell, a full sized US pool table does. The amount of space a bar billiards table takes up is minimal, all shots are from one point so your not trying to cue out of someone’s ear and piss people off, plus there’s a finite limit to the game time. Sorry, went off on one there.

The Yorkshire John Wayne.....then you look down and it’s not a gun and a star it’s a pint and a pipe.

Two of my favourite Murray moments:
1) "AND NOTHING CAN STOP ARNOUX......" boom!
2) where he broke up with emotion as Damon Hill won his championship.
Amazing commentator and a legend. RIP.
