Makes sense with him being their u21 manager.
International management is a game for the semi retired or those that have fucked up their reputation at club level. Someone like Klopp wouldn't touch it yet.

France would be very tough Would fancy our chances v Spain for sure, would put them down the list these days Germany also not great, Italy not amazing either Belgium,Grant clear favourites After that maybe Portugal if their key players are fit England behind that Holland have been in great form since they failed to qualify for the last World Cup. They are my tip to win the competition on the assumption that they don’t self implode. yes massively improved but with Van Dyke out & very little up front they aren't as good as 12 months ago

I was listening to a podcast with European journos on like Raphael Honigstein and Julien Laurens - and they all thought England would have a real chance But they all thought France were massive, overwhelming favourites. So if we do have to play them early, we'd be in trouble. But if they win their group, it'd probably be Germany or Portugal in the last 16. The journos were reasonably dismissive of both of them (and Holland under de Boer, who they didn't rate at all) - and had England as a bigger threat Football cliche number 21,654... never write off the Germans. this was said before the last World Cup

Also they got away with a bad handball against USA

Looks like the key's going to be if he sticks with his 3-4-3 thing. We'll find out in the March games as that'll be his last chance to change it. Pickford Walker Maguire Stones TAA Rice Henderson Shaw Sterling Kane Rashford If he does, it'll be something relatively boring like this, you'd think? He loves the Rice/Hendo combo, especially against anyone he thinks are good. It effectively leaves one place for Rashford, Sancho, Foden and Grealish (and Mount unless you play him deeper ahead of one of Rice/Hendo) Pickford's injured for the March WCQs, so either Pope or Henderson will get a chance to stake a claim - but I'd be surprised if he doesn't stick with Pickford -Is Shaw, as good as he's been, the best bet as an attacking wing-back ahead of Chilwell or even an out-of-position Saka? -And there'd still be calls for Trippier, James or Walker on the right -He could sneak a Bellingham or a Mount deeper in midfield ahead of one of Rice/Henderson (or even Phillips) - but not both? -Then the other decision would be Grealish or Rashford assuming Sterling is nailed-on? There'd be another space for an attacking player in a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 - and I think that's what most fans would go with, but haven't seen any real indication he'll switch. Pickford TAA Maguire Stones Shaw Rice Henderson (or Mount instead of one of them?) Sterling Foden (or Mount) Rashford (or Grealish) Kane www.thetimes.co.uk/article/john-stones-resurgence-means-its-time-for-southgate-to-ditch-wing-back-system-l0zhbkcsctheathletic.co.uk/2454377/2021/03/16/bellingham-harrison-johnstone-picking-gareth-southgates-england-squad/

I'll be very interested to see who his 3rd goalkeeper is with Pickford injured as well as who will get the no1 shirt. Surely it has to be Pope for no1 spot. 3rd choice, who knows?

Johnstone at WBA seems to be the one that'll be picked as No.3 tomorrow Looks like they're going to name quite a big squad tomorrow, for 3 qualifiers in a week - so with a handful of injuries, talk of call-ups for Ayling and Bamford at Leeds - and a Lingard recall too.

Would love Sam Johnstone to get a call up if only because he shares a name with my little lad who is also a goalkeeper. In one of those strange coincidences, the Man United scout that picked up Sam Johnstone also spotted the talent my Sam Johnstone has.

I don't mind Lingard tbh. Yeah - I think with the injuries (Henderson, Barnes, Maddison, Sancho, maybe Grealish, Bellingham unavailable) and maybe an enlarged squad, he was alwys probably going to get in. Don't think he'll get in the Euros 23 though?

Don't think he'll get in the Euros 23 though? Not unless we pick up loads of injuries. But he's a good footballer, good going forward and linking the play and will do a decent enough job.

Sam Johnstone and Ollie Watkins both uncapped....... After the talk of Bamford, he's gone for Watkins. And no Alexander-Arnold - with the other 3 RBs chosen - which kind of indicates he'll be using Walker in a back 3 again? As does the selection of Coady, who wouldn't be an option in a 2, you'd think?
