Looks like our local Con, has a good idea, it needs a signature and you need to check you're not using a browser that prevents Tory links. jogideon-admin.conservativewebsites.org.uk/campaigns/re-open-etruria-stationOverall it was madness in this era to close a centrally based station that could have been served by a shuttle bus service. Compare our city to Manchester, where free buses are revving up to spin you around the city from Piccadilly. I hope it succeeds, along with the Meir plan too. We need to modernise our city links.

Not sure spending 19 of the 35 mil on modernisation of 2 bus stations, Hanley being one of them, is the best use of the funding

Not sure spending 19 of the 35 mil on modernisation of 2 bus stations, Hanley being one of them, is the best use of the funding Those are the standard prices of things though, compare to cross rail expenditure (19Bn), it's absolute peanuts. Zero in fact. Nothing has been spent on our transport in comparison with some other cities. Take Arnhem, NL (pop 150000) for instance, completely rebuilt their station at a cost of 37.5M euro. Our conurbation is 3x that amount and yet we're "worried" we should be spending money to help people use the city. I really don't know what we spend our money on in this country, we'd prefer places to rot and just never improve.

The point i was making was that Hanley Station is not that old. There must be other areas in the city which benefit from the funding

I used to travel Stoke to Manchester by train a lot and still remember the long list of stopping points en route, which was monotonously repeated by the Station Tannoy whilst you waithed the extra 40 mins for your delayed train. Etruria was certainly one of the regular stops, as was Longport, although I'm not sure which of the stations then are still open now.
"Platform 1 for the delayed 08.10 stopping train to Manchester, calling at Etruria, Longport, Kidsgrove, Mow Cop, Congleton, Macclesfield, Prestbury, Adlington, Poynton,, Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme, Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly."

Etruria's slap bang in the middle of Festival Park and Newcastle, would make perfect sense to reopen it.

Etruria's slap bang in the middle of Festival Park and Newcastle, would make perfect sense to reopen it. When we campaigned against it's closure last time we suggested a park and ride scheme, free, and it would take you to either Hanley or Newcastle. I wonder how those city/town centres would have fared if it had been in place now?

Perhaps I'm missing something, but Etruia Station is in the middle of nowhere and was barely used back in the day. Is there a link to what the proposal actually is, such as where the car park might be and why it's a good idea to have a park and ride station without mainline train access?
