The in laws have a holiday home on a loch (forget the name) in Scotland. Hoping to get up there in early summer if Turgeon allows it.

St Ives for us late August I love St Ives, but it’s just way too packed anytime between Easter and September. We drove 40 minutes from our holiday base last year to St Ives for the evening. Got there at 5pm and it was shoulder to shoulder through the town and onto the quay. After half an hour we came away, just wasn’t worth the hassle. Lovely place but like so many other towns in Cornwall is just too busy to enjoy on occasions. Padstow is similar so I aim out of season if I can, but I know that’s hard if you have kids and who knows what the holiday situation will look like this year.

Edinburgh, one of the best cities for a mini break, I've been so many times and still not been in all the pubs I was just reading that they are banning cars from George Street, to give it a European Boulevard feel and put street cafes etc in (without the long hot sunny days )

My parents lived in Portreath so know the area quite well, as you say it gets packed but it’s a gorgeous place, weather permitting ofc.

We stayed in St Ives in 2019 in a lovely house looking over the harbour near the Tate (we didn't have to pay, Bro In Law did for mum in laws 70th which was a bonus lol)
Beautiful place, but you are right, far too busy, and parking is an absolute joke even if you get conned into one of their council week long passes.
We usually stop in Hayle round the corner, that's a lovely place with sandy golden beaches for miles, is 2 miles from St Ives too and you can jump on the steam train.
We had booked for 2020 a hol just for me and the missus in Tenerife to celebrate 20 years of marriage, that got kyboshed, we delayed until 2021, but they wanted payment in full with no guarantees in Jan, so we forfeited the deposit and sacked it off - I don't see the point of going abroad and having to distance socially, masks by pools etc especially if other countries are well behind with vaccines and R rates - I like to socialise, drink, chat football, sing and dance at the evening entertainment - no point otherwise
Would rather save the wedge and go when life is normal again.

Tempted by Dublin too for the 3rd test if I could get tickets again. I'd planned to do the tour to SA and nearly booked last autumn but just couldn't see it happening. Gutted because Cape Town is an amazing city. Plenty of time to save for 12 years time. We were there the year after the last lions tour and it just looked an amazing experience being there with 40,000+ other fans.

Got a trip booked in Greece first week of July. Hopefully we can go, the Mrs has had her jab but unlikely I will be fully vaccinated by the time we go so hoping negative tests are accepted if we can fly.
If all goes well we would like a trip in october half term. Holidays in the UK aren't our cup of tea to be honest.
Me and the wife are burnt out at the minute, praying we can go in July at least.

Cancelled my 4 week sortie to the US in June as we just didn’t feel like we’d gain the full experience with social distancing measures being in place. Looking for a coastal holiday in the UK early August instead, probably just a week or so. Any recommendations? Require decent eateries, pubs of course, pleasant surroundings for walking. Would prefer a nice high quality b&b but certainly not against the idea of camping/caravan.

Already talk in certain states of lifting all restrictions sooner rather than later. I'll hopefully be making the reverse journey for 3 weeks in England in July.

Will try and ferry to Germany and Holland in August/Sept. Obviously ferries you can book as and when, plus hotels can be booked on the hoof too. Flex is the key this year.

People going barefoot around town trying to sell you home made trinkets and beads is not for me....and don't get me started on the number of hippie dudes and dudesses who think they can get a tune out of a guitar and expect you to pay for the privilege of listening to them while you are trying to enjoy a relaxing outdoor meal in the square with your partner. To be honest my experience was not as bad as I am painting it but there was nothing about Asheville that would make me want to go back. Wouldn't mind a look at Denver. A young engineer I used to work with is employed by a major oil and gas company. He bought a place in Breckenridge a few years ago off the back of a 4yr overseas assignment. Not a bad investment for a 25 yr old. The whole area looked great.

It'd be as much to get out and about in the surrounding area as actually Asheville itself. Food for thought though. One of my alternatives was Savannah, any idea about that? Portland was okay but I wouldn't go back just for the city. The surrounding area and Pacific coast though, I'd be there like a shot! Absolutely stunning part of the world. I've done up and down there a few times now, Vancouver, Vancouver Island, Seattle and Portland. I'd live there tomorrow.

Agree with Memphis. Nashville on the other hand I was actually stopping off in Memphis for 2 days and then Nashville for 4 days. Is Memphis that bad? Ii would rather holiday on The Shankhill Rd in Belfast followed by a trip to a favela in Brazil during mugging season than go to Memphis again .Dunkin Donuts was robbed at gunpoint when I was there. One of the quieter nights. I only wanted a Boston Creme and a coffee. If you like the Elvis think I guess you'll love it. Downtown just isn't nice

Agree with Memphis. Nashville on the other hand I was actually stopping off in Memphis for 2 days and then Nashville for 4 days. Is Memphis that bad? 2 days is ok. Beale Street is very touristy - a bit tacky, crap food etc but is safe enough. We went to the National Civil Rights Museum housed in the motel where Martin Luther King was assassinated. Didn't bother with Elvis and Graceland. I enjoyed the NCR museum. Had some ribs at the place across the road which is quite famous apparently. Also went to the top of a pyramid type building on Mud Island which was home to Bass Pro Shops which is an outdoor store. The pyramid was ok to give you vies across the Mississippi. Bass Pro shops are interesting to see the amount of hunting stuff on offer e.g. 30 different types of each breed of plastic ducks/birds used as decoys to attract real birds for shooting at, 100's of shotguns and rifles. the place is massive. A fascinating insight into one small aspect of American culture. If you are staying in Memphis my recommendation is to stay in a hotel in middle of the city centre as possible. You do not want to be walking far at night and ideally, you do not want to be driving at night either. We stayed at the Holiday Inn and it was safe enough to walk around the city centre from here.

Very different to most American towns/cities. We also went to Charleston SC as it is not too far from Savannah. Another decent town for a visit.

Agree with Memphis. Nashville on the other hand I was actually stopping off in Memphis for 2 days and then Nashville for 4 days. Is Memphis that bad? To the Guardian link below, I'd add Beale street, very lively with Blues music when we were there, en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beale_Street the Peabody Hotel. the famous ducks Sun studios is of historic importance musically. Not just for Elvis but bluesman such as Howlin' Wolf, Junior Parker, Little Milton, B.B. King, James Cotton, Rufus Thomas, and Johnny Cash. Sun Studio - Wikipedia en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_StudioI think a visit to Graceland is essential if you go to Memphis, there's much more to it than you'd think. the list of visitors is impressive : Dylan, Lennon, Paul Simon, Muhammed Ali, BB King, former US President Jimmy Carter; the late Duchess of Devonshire, the sitting ambassadors of India, France, China, Korea and Israel to the United States; as well as several US governors, members of the US Congress, and at least two Nobel Prize winners, William and Harry, Paul McCartney. George W. Bush hosted Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi for a tour of the mansion, it became one of a few residences on American soil other than an Embassy, the White House, or any of the other Presidential retreats to have hosted an official joint-visit by a sitting US president and a then current head of a foreign government. On August 6, 2010, Prince Albert II, the Principality of Monaco's Head of State, and his then fiancée and now Princess of Monaco Charlene Wittstock, also toured Graceland as part of a vacation to the United States.[43] Prince Albert explained: "If you're on a summer holiday, you've got to come at this time of year en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/GracelandGraceland amazing, particularly during Elvis week, when I went there were appearances/ talks/ performances by people associated with Elvis....Leiber of Leiber and Stoller( many early hits " don't", Bill Medley( Righteous Brothers,), writers of Suspicious Minds, A little Less Conversation, Memories, In the Ghetto, Mac Davis . But , I'd imagine that unless you are an Elvis fan , it leaves a lot to be desired, You could feel the racial tension. www.theguardian.com/travel/2013/aug/17/top-10-elvis-presley-memphis-attractionsThis year I'm taking short breaks in the caravan to Yorkshire Dales, Staffordshire Peak, Lake District, Herefordshire/River Wye, Suffolk ( longer), staying a couple of days with RedwhiteBlue, and then staying with Partickpotter for two nights on the way up to the Orkneys.

Has anyone rushed to book a holiday abroad since the easing of restrictions was announced?
What do we know about foreign travel, quarantines and covid restrictions abroad so far? Where and when will Boris let us go?
All seems a bit premature or fuck it lets book one and see what happens?
Will we have to go on the pull in benidorm wearing muzzles? Probably wise, virus or not.

I've got an existing holiday to Greece I've had booked since 2019. I moved it from last year to this June in good faith seeing as people went last year. Hoping it goes ahead in July but I won't be fully vaccinated by then. Hope Greece will accept a negative test instead which they had in place last year too. If I can't go IL move it again.
