That’s football. We lost because of a shit ref. People need to untwist their knickers. We were garbage 1st half. Decent for 25 minutes 2nd. MON is clueless. If it wasn't for baaths injury we'd have plodded along 2nd half much like the first. Grow up, man. You know teams are allowed to have spells in the game. Do you expect us to dominate for 90 minutes?

We are what we are. A mid-table team. Oh I agree, I just think we need to change the title of the thread because it's misleading! That was more a case of me just spouting off my general frustration at us right now rather than a critique of your original post! 😂

I think it’s a really big leap and a bit of cliche where people are saying he’s was a backs to the wall man with NI. All of those expected goal loons would tell you we were going for it every game with Jones last season, I know which man I’d prefer and I think we should just let the man do his job. Things will turn quickly next season if he persists with names over performances. There’s two players out there tonight who must be on their way home knowing they’ve had a stinker and they’re the two biggest names in the squad. It’s an absolute curse. If you mean MIkel as one of the two he didn't have a stinker. There's a middle ground and he found it last season, he's been scared to death of finding it this season. He's not the man we should be trusting to take us forward. I thought he was shocking in the second half to be honest with you. Joe Allen literally cannot pass a ball.

Just checked and we have won 5 in 20 lost 7 and drawn 8! There's no place for apologists like you here. We've lost 27 out of 20 and you and your 'facts' aren't going to convince me otherwise. EVERYONE OUT!

The issue tonight was that we didn't take our chances when we were on top of the game (and it came back to bite us on the arse due to poor officiating).

I'm genuinely amazed by this level of vitriol towards MON. He inherited a shitshow just a year ago. He did and he certainly turned us around from being relegation candidates. The question is do you see him being able to win enough games to ever get a team promoted with his defensive mentality? There are massive question marks over his recruitment too. Fair questions, Gary. Don't think any of us know the answers. I obviously share all the same niggles with MON as everyone else. The Allen-Mikel fascination worries me massively, and the fact it seems JOM will be here again next year is very concerning. But at least Powell is playing more in the No.10 role recently - and Doughty hasn't been bought to sit on the bench, so hopefully that'll continue next season. All he can do recruitment-wise is nibble at the edges of making a difference such is the degree his hands are tied behind his back with FFP - with 50% of the wage bill going on players not at the club, and another portion on our 2 best young players out for the season along with our only midfield goal threat and last year's player of the season. I think Powell and Fletcher have played together for more than a half in about 11 games. That says it all Brown looks very poor, but there's only so long you can hammer him for that single bit of business. I'm just really surprised at how many people have gone so early on this anti-MON crusade. Since Vokes' penalty miss cost us the chance to go 2nd in mid-December, we've only lost the 6 games - and all to top 7 teams - all on absolute paper thin margins that could have gone either way, apart from Norwich. Last night, for example, Swansea didn't create a chance in the second half apart from Roberts' volley in about the 83rd minute. The run has been tedious, but we've looked a million miles from a rabble. We're still generally a committed, organised side who are clearly playing for the manager. I can fully understand the frustration and I'm massively pissed off, but I just think talk of sacking him is ridiculous.

I don't have any strong feelings either way on MON - I don't think he should be sacked, he's done well to stabilise us, he's frustratingly stubborn and cautious. But Barnsley in particular are making a bit of a mockery of the hand-wringing 'what choice does he have but to set up like this?' argument.

Excellent post It’s a very frustrating time, even with more points on the board than we have atm, and the outside chance of promotion , we would probably have a miserable time if we made the Premiership If we have made little progress by the end of next season, then the situation needs revisiting

You look at what the Barnsley manager has done, what McCarthy has done at Cardiff. Millwall are above us in the the table with a better goal difference FFS. The excuses for this dreadful, dreadful, season are looking increasingly threadbare.

There's always an outlier though. Barnsley are this season's (and if you like your XG, they're lucky to be above us)
And I think Cardiff had a much more Champ-ready squad, with much less fat on their wage bill than us.
Don't think anyone is saying MON is the second coming - but I don't think his underperformance is anywhere in sacking territory given the mitigation

For me it’s the lack of excitement in our play. There is very little. Which makes it so dull to watch and ultimately ends in defeat (recently - last 3.5 months)
Questions need answering on MON, and rightly so

It's a combination of their new manager doing a really good job and the players growing into the Championship and playing with confidence. Cardiff have shown how important it is to be threatening from set pieces at one end and solid at the other, 16 goals this season which is twice more than anyone else and with players like Batth and Souttar in the team it's disappointing we haven't scored more.......

MON has not done a bad job in trying to turn an almost perfect storm back in a positive direction. The fact that we have been anywhere near a promotion chance has been incredible. Cannot so call supporters on this site grasp that Stoke City have MON to thank for getting a tune out of a squad of players who were totally deflated and devoid of any energy for a fight. He has been inspirational in the last eight months and the dressing room is once again showing signs of spirit with good professional leaders in the squad to point the very promising young players in the right direction. Stoke City are once again moving in the right direction but unfortunately not fast enough for a minority of "Stoke Fans" who want to be back in the Premiership within one or two seasons. It's not going to happen!

I wonder if we had fans in the stadium how they would react to his approach and his cautiousness. I suspect it wouldn't be great and have no idea what his reaction to that would be.

As fans we only tend to look at results and performances on the pitch, but I do get the sense that there is a much better culture emerging behind the scenes under MoN's watch. That does need to start translating inti something more tangible (in terms of wins) though.

Which makes it so dull to watch and ultimately ends in defeat (recently - last 3.5 months) Questions need answering on MON, and rightly so I thought last night was entertaining and we also played some good, positive stuff against Luton and Sheffield Wednesday (second half). I'll be honest, I look at 90% of teams in this league and they are just as 'entertaining' as us. This is the second division and that is reflected by what pretty much every club at this level produces. For example, 16/17 teams have scored less or a similar amount of goals to us this season. I'm not saying that we are free-flowing or that every game in a thriller, but I think that it reflects what we are at the minute - a mid-table/top half team. For us and most teams at this level much of the season turns into something of a war of attrition. That's just the nature of this league unless you can pull together a really good squad of players (which we don't currently have).

It's been a funny old season, and I think the games coming thick and fast has really affected the quality as well as increased the amount of injuries teams have had to contend with. There's only really Norwich, Brentford, Swansea and Watford that have been consistent and even Watford were playing some awful football early on considering the squad at their disposal. Unfortunately since the Campbell injury and a few other set backs we're well and truly part of the pack that screams "much of a muchness"
