Shawcross not on bench. Who is Clarke? Clive.

Donβt worry, it balances out when size of 2 men Vokes comes on π I don't rate Vokes, but compared to Brown I actually do! Has brown tried to assault you or damaged your car or something?! π

Was Fletch a groin strain. If so 4-6 weeks followed by a mini pre-season if all goes well. Be March before ee see him start won't it? The manager said before the Leicester game they hoped to have him back for Rotherham on Tuesday

That would be my change in the midfield 3 as well. It would give Mikel the chance to show what he can to further up the pitch. MON possibly thinks Thompson offers a bit more going forward but yeh I'd have started cousins too. The other thing that Thompson brings to the party is a better dead ball kick than most of his team mates. That might account for his selection. I have no idea if any of our three new loan players takes a decent free kick or corner.

Cousins being dropped is a bit weird at this point. I think the manager views Cousins and Mikel as DM's and only wants one on the pitch at the time For me Mikel is defy the better player however Cousins was playing really well and Mikel has looked a bit off his game since his injury Yeah, just seems odd that Cousins was in good form and hadnβt done anything to be dropped. Offers more defensively than JOM for my money.

Thompson and Brown ... mmm, not so much.
Powell won't be wide right, will he?
Left you'd think having played him there before.

Would have preferred Clucas than Thompson but as others have said probably best we can put out. But wow where will a goal come from other than Powell Brown and Matondo rarely score. Nor do the midfield 3 hence the need for Clucas. Clucas really hasn't played that well this season and hasn't offered much of a goal threat. Thompson has been better and deserves his place ahead of Clucas. If anything I'd have gone for Cousins and played Mikel further forward but to be honest we've got good options in midfield. What will make the difference is how the front three gel.

If itβs anything like the home game weβll be too deep to have to worry about the ball over the top. Didnt we have a back 3/5 at home? It was more of a back 10 from what I remember.

I'm suprised people are saying they like that line up.
It'll be good to see what the new signings can do though.

It looks like 4-3-3, but it might turn out to be more like 4-6-0. Don't know enough about Matondo, but Powell and Brown both like to move all over the pitch, and Powell probably still sees himself as playmaker, unless he's been told to under no circumstances move more than Vokes would have done. He's just been relieved off his defensive duties, which is good. But he could still drop deeper in search of the ball, if the midfield trio struggle to deliver constructive balls, which I fear they might.

I would be amazed if we saw Fletcher before the end of Jan. Gregory even when fit has been out for a long time and will provide take a month to get back to anything like full fitness.

Thompson gives us a left footer in midfield, as would Clucas. I can see why he's done this but think we'll see Sam at some stage and Cousins can replace Mikel if he tires. It's tweaking up front that's the problem at the moment.

Only surprise for me is Thompson over Clucas. I figured one of them would feature since we need someone to deliver on set pieces. I guess Thompson has done better this season in those situations.
