The inclusion of his name on the team sheet inspires fear and trepidation . . . .in the opposition. It does me.....and I'm not the opposition!

Seriously though strikers notoriously thrive on form and streaks of goals. Weve had strikers in the past who have had barren spells and nobody more than themselves wanted that spell to end. Crouch* talks about it in a recent podcast -he had some horrendous dry spells.
If he gets one -off his elbow, off his arse -it doesnt matter, im sure more will follow.
Stein's** first few weeks at Chelsea were terrible then he scored one and went on to score in a record breaking number of consecutive games (7 i think)
Given that he is our only option right now, it would be sensible to wish him well
*Im not comparing Vokes to Crouch ** Im not comparing Vokes to Stein

Hopefully the new wide men can create better chances, score a 1 in 5 chance rather than the 1 or 2 half chances he's getting
Come on Sam you goal machine.

I can’t see any positives. £9 million flop. It's what's called a "Vokesbargain".

Well, we ain't getting a new striker before B'Burn and Fletcher seems unlikely (?) so we have to go with Sam (or, at least, I would - neither NP at false 9 or Brown in the middle inspire).
And, in theory at least, if he gets the service into the box, which he should do now otherwise we have loaned two duffers, he should thrive (if he can get there of course).
So the sentiment of the thread is, at least, correct and MoN's only tactic must be to encourage and support.
You never know, we might get the SV of the Euros back - he looked good then at least once when he scored off that Gunter (?) cross.
Fingers crossed.
All that said, I hope the transfer team are on it for next week.

Maybe just maybe with better service from the wings he’ll excel at what works for him and his limited mobility. All players have their strengths and how many strikers have we got through which may actually be down to poor crossing? Inverted wingers don’t suit everyone. They may not have speed but a finishing touch a quick delivery deserves. A strikers instinct.
Put it on a plate for me and I’ll tuck it away. Ask me to play football and kids could get the ball off me 🤷♂️
I get as frustrated as anyone with Vokes but teammates get frustrated with me. If my service is there I’ll score. I’ll back his positional sense but not speed.

Scored 20 goals in the 13-14 season. If he could just rewind to that form we’d get promoted no problem.

Yes things go to far and its not nice and I'm as guilty as anyone particularly on the matchday thread but the bloke is full on gone and the sooner we part company the better for him and the better for us. There is no redemption story here.

There is no redemption story here. I agree sadly. I do feel a bit sorry for him as you can’t really compensate for lost legs with extra effort. The real blame lies with the blokes that sanctioned the transfer.

Can he be in the right place at the right time, when all these crosses come in from these new signings - nows the time to find out - give him three starts and a bit like baseball - then he’s OUT for good

The real blame lies with the blokes that sanctioned the transfer. At the time I think it was a signing that gave a bit of hope as he’d been fairly prolific in the championship before but it just hasn’t happened for him. The Money that was paid was absolutely scandalous and I think that’s where folk get wound up. At the end of the day though, he doesn’t set the price so the blame falls with the transfer team. Having said all this if he plays tomorrow I’ll still be routing for him to score as always

After the break in last season I felt that Vokes came back fitter than any of the other players and was significant in helping us beat the drop. He had clearly spent the hiatus wisely and avoided the pies

The guys confidence is clearly on the floor and he has been really poor for us since he signed. But thinking about it he really could turn out to be useful for us in the second half of the season, particularly if the service from the wings now dramatically improves (which it should). A couple of goals and hopefully he might pick up a bit of momentum. We know he can be a decent striker at this level, he scored 15 last time he was.

I never understand why we have somebody like him in the team with the system we play. He relies on support and ball in and around the penalty area. He gets nothing but scraps. He has never been a Campbell/Fuller type player who can make a goal out of nothing or take on 2 men with pace/strength/skill
I think if we do end up getting some decent wingbacks and get some service in there - then we can judge a bit more.
Also if you are not getting regular football then it is a not just about getting fit but also match fit/sharp - he never really gets a long run in the team to get that sharpness - which is why he just looks a little of the pace.
He can still come good with a bit of service - here's hoping

He’s missed sitter after sitter when played
