Disappointing and stupid. But fuck me, it doesn’t take long to hustle up a lynch mob on here does it??!! Agreed, disappointing and stupid if true but let's wait for the investigation and hearing. Absolutely crucial that our lads stick to the rules. The mealy mouthed minute of contrition and an associated donation to the NHS from some of the following has been way inappropriate: Quina, Walker, Chalobah, Gray, Ndombele, Mount, Rice, Lanzini, Sancho, Xhaka, Barkley, Sissoko, Rojo, Reguilon, Kean, Mitrovic, Lacazette, Pepe, Grealish, Chilwell, Lamela, Niasse, Aurier, Jovic, Abraham, Celso, Mendy, Luiz, Milojevic etc

Players from the bigger clubs and arguably the more high profile female players, went off to Dubai over Christmas break, brought coronavirus back with them, spread it around clubs leading to several postponements. Smaller clubs, who were forced to play despite Covid depleted squads earlier in the season were appalled that the bigger clubs, with the biggest squads, got their games postponed. The reaction of the clubs, initially, was similar to those of Celtic and despite the best attempts of the likes of Jacqui Oatley to raise the profile of the incident there has been little coverage because the womens game simply isn't news. Had high profile premier league players done what these women had done, it would be plastered all over the news pages, front and back and on every TV news channel around. The fact that I follow women's football and this completely passed me by confirms your point. I suspect it's because I've been off social media for months, and as you say it doesn't tend to make the news.

So because it's McClean and he's been persecuted in the past, it basically means we're not allowed an opinion on this matter?

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve little interest in him or any time for the BBC, but I imagine his presence will be in the rules somehow.

If he has broken the rules then he should be punished accordingly, no more, no less. So talk of cancelling contracts etc is way over the top. I quite like Jimmy, but he is as thick as custard and really doesn't help himself.
I would also be interested in the status of the gym. I mean, it is supposed to be closed, so if his "sparring partner" had opened the gym then he should also face legal action. Alternatively, both are in breach of "meeting up indoors / household mixing".
Takes two to tango spar

But he has though. Hence the club suspending him. Suspended PENDING an ALLEGED breach of covid. Let's wait for both sides of the story.... Right ok, ALLEGEDLY, for something he’s not allowed to do...

In the great scheme of things his latest transgression in itself is pretty trivial and as much as I want to I can't spew the bile. However it is another example of his complete fuckwittery and the day of his departure from this club wont come a day too soon.

I dont know how Villa fans reacted but Grealish was villified by most people for what he did. I'm not suggesting McClean going to the gym is anywhere near as bad but we are in lockdown, there are rules we follow for good reasons. Ordinary people are shamed in the press for breaking rules so why should a high profile footballer get away with it? The club have done the right thing its just a shame some people want to excuse him. Its what hes posting on social media to thousands of followers thats the bigger issue than what he actually does in his spare time.

Perhaps the saddest thing about this whole affair is that we don’t get to hear thousands of Stokies singing “Hey, oh, Jimmy Mack, when are you coming back” tomorrow afternoon.

Not sure why this can't be sorted quickly. If he has acted out of club protocol, fine him, move on. There can't be any other outcome for me.

Yes there's rules to follow, but they're totally ridiculous in fairness. That's my point. He's getting vilified (on here) for training with 1 other person. Just what society has become and what the government want.

Maybe the club could have protected the player a bit and kept this in house, you know like if he’d just tripped over his dog or something? BM
