Class from SJW.
Jonathan Woodgate’s debut for Real Madrid runs him close though. An OG and a Red Card!

Class from SJW. Jonathan Woodgate’s debut for Real Madrid runs him close though. An OG and a Red Card! I think SJW beats Woodgate, 2 own goals and a horrendously missed penalty. Absolutely nothing went right for him in this game, yet he was kept on to extend his misery for the full 90 minutes

The weird thing is he was actually one of our better players on the day.

He also kicked the ball into his own face at one point.

The weird thing is he was actually one of our better players on the day. Really? He was absolutely horrendous and his horror day was compounded not by 2 own goals or a penalty misd but by the fact he was so bad he even managed to kick the ball into his own face. I think your memory is blinded by your affections for the player.

I think your memory is blinded by your affections for the player. It really isn't, I just remember the game. His overall performance wasn't especially bad, it was a 5/6 out of 10 on a day when the majority were 3 or 4. Bad stuff happened to him, he did some bad things, but those don't necessarily define a performance.

The goals encapsulated why he wasn’t all that great at tracking back.

I moaned for quite some time about that wretched performance which was symptomatic of how he was playing at that time...terribly.

Definitely not one of super John’s better performances
But really pales into insignificance compared to ali dia at Southampton a fifty odd minutes cameo of a sub to only be subbed

He wasn't playing well and we looked a mile more dangerous with even the limited Jerome up front, but Pulis was well into his 'Falling Down' phase and went out of his way not to play him until he pretty much had to. Recall Adam and Cameron in particular being horrendous that afternoon.

I do, if people use it as a reason for them being in the team when they're actually shit at it then it pisses me off Him and McClean are very alike with it. Both reactionary and it's actually a weakness of theirs not a strength. If people didn't bleat on how good they were defensively it wouldn't bother me but people do and it's just bollocks.

Arnie was miles better than both at tracking back and yet constantly got stick for being lazy.

He's compounded his bad game with an @ to a Chelsea who lives in New York City instead of @chelseafc.
Classic John Lewis style.

It just proves the point I've been making for more than a decade now, Stoke fans (maybe the wider footballing public too but I don't engage them) equate hard work with defensive prowess. And it's so wrong it's untrue.

Two of my favourite Walters goals came against Chelsea as well. The run from his own half where he left Luiz for dead, wrong-footed two defenders and shot past Cech, then this one off the bar vs Begovic in the League Cup
