It's fucking garbage, but then again, I can't ever remember a time when it wasn't fucking garbage.
Perhaps it's just more evident what a pile of shite it is now that we've got nothing better to do than watch it.
Oh to be at the pub ๐

Saturday night TV is geared toward the bovine herd.

I think someone's made a cock up in the scheduling department at W, they've put something else on other than the The Catherine Tate Show tonight. Heads needs to roll.

This is the best thing on Saturday night TV. The last ever series is on currently.
All you lucky bastards that have never seen it before, there's all 7 previous series to watch on iplayer.
Everyone harps on about Sopranos, Breaking Bad etc. It's easily as good as any of them.
Astonishingly you find yourself rooting for the French police.
It's like a cerebral Sweeney.

Its the repeats that do my head in as well.Showing something that was on a couple of nights earlier. I just leave the TV to the missus and the shite she watches and spend more time on the laptop watching stuff on YouTube etc.

When I say it I mean it. I genuinely don't watch TV. It's crap.
I lie actually I guess I do in a sense. I watch Youtube.
Take away a good Attenborough doc Springwatch or a Simon Reeve doc and I think TV is shit.
I do occasionally look to see what's on like I did last night and I thought. It's looks terrible.
That's why personally I don't give it anytime. I can't sit for too long in front of a screen either I don't like it so I busy myself with other things. In Lockdown it's keeping active with exercise or Acoustic Guitar or I'll do some quizes keep my knowledge up.

I have thought for years that the breweries sponsored Saturday night TV in order to ensure you went out and had a few beers / wine etc
Doesn't look like much has changed
The other thing that gets me is you can tell how little is invested into programmes these days, the vast majority, seem to be following people around in some way shape or fashion ala reality tv
No story, no thought, just a fly on the wall programme in different scenarios

Have a friend who used to work for one of the major networks here in the US. He said that Friday and Saturday nights were historically viewed as "trash" nights because so many people went out to experience the "real" world. It was a good night to "experiment" with different types of programming, run re-runs and to give the "weaker" programs a last chance. Well that's all changed - subscription TV and Covid have ensured that.
But Network TV is dying over here. Advertisements are going to be the last straw that kills it. Among my circle of friends, that's their first bitch when the subject of "network" TV comes up. I can live without hearing about the latest pill every 5 minutes - "Hi! I'm Tom...and I have a small penis and bad skin..." "Hi, I'm Nancy and I have frequent diarrhea and I'm depressed..." ad nauseum (literally)
Local TV news just parrots what already hit the internet 5 hours ago. Our phones have better/more accurate weather apps. Then it's 4 hours of fake "reality" TV and attention-seeking singing/dancing gits. Every time a Kardashian farts or some producer wants to push a social agenda, it's another show. I even joked that I'm thinking of moving to Alaska, since it seems everybody up there gets their own TV Show. "Well...it's 20 below out there, but using all of our skills, we can survive this journey to the liquor store and back safely."
And don't even get me started on CNN, MSNBC and FOX ... "news."
So once their ad-revenue fails them, they'll try to sell us "licenses" - sound familiar to you guys?
