After Joe Allen he is probably the highest earner at the club. A major drain on our ability to add to the squad through FFP.

Yea it’s always made me wonder. Even a long punt up field. We end up under pressure either way, but a quick throw in would cause issues. He always makes sure he clears the adboards so a quick throw can't be taken. A punt upfield could lead to a slice or Vokes losing it and them countering with Shawcross out of position. Yea true but he doesn’t even think about an alternative, he could’ve very easily passed it to bursik at least once today but didnt

I would rather see Ryan Shawcross get a contract extension than keep the likes of Vokes,Brown,Wimmer etc.People keep going on about his salary and possibly freeing up wages for other players as a reason to get rid of him.He is nowhere near finished yet. Can't wait for some to eat humble pie when he proves you wrong. Until then though we can look at his current performances. Contract extension? Wow 😂

I hope so. Can't see it though. We've been waiting for him to come good again for years now but the reality is that the last time he was good was 2015, maybe 2016. 5 years now of constant injury problems and struggles whenever he plays.

I thought he was rock solid for 60 minutes.
The 2nd goal seemed to knocked the stuffing (and energy) out of everyone.

Fucking hell I’m sure people just moan for the sake of it. From what I saw he:
A) Was our best player first half and defended cleverly B) Was absolutely fine with the ball and used it as well as anybody else C) Was nowhere near what you’d consider an issue, bar looking tired towards the end
How some people have written him off is either just by looking at the scoreline or simply craving attention posting absolute shite.
I actually thought he looked very good first half.

Both need to go, not because of tonight but as you mention because of FFP we can't afford them and its poor that Allen is still here but more understandable why Shawcross is but we should be telling him straight, I think he'd understand.

According to the commentator on the BBC for Qpr v Fulham "Both sides have used their full compliment of 5 subs"....so why didn't we sub Ryan and the Wardrobe ?(if only we had a witch too)

Well I just hope that the club move to bring in a left back this window and go back to a 4 at the back consisting of for now, Collins Souttar, Chester and New signing or Fox when he returns. Mikel also should be made to move aside. If anyone shows any remote interest in McClean get him gone too

50k a week would enable us a large amount of flexibility in the summer when his contract ends with us. That is 4 good wages at this level!

He's worn the shirt in each of the last fifteen years now. We certainly know how to treat our heroes don't we?
Nothing lasts forever and most things decline with age, but for crying out loud try to show at least a modicum of respect.

Probably one of our best players, was actually better than Souttar today who had a bit of an off game especially some of his passes. The 3rd goal he didn't get back for but Allen just watched the ball bounce and didn't try to press the player until he had gone past. The 4th was a great block on the cross and couldn't do much about the follow up (wouldn't have been given with VAR as Albrighton was definitely interfering). I'm not sure what the liner was doing on the 4th. Albrighton completely impeded Bursik

Great player that he's been over the years that was pretty awful and a shame but we need to move him out in the summer. His wage is far better going to some younger players that can actually keep up with the pace of a game. As great as he's been he's one of 8 or 9 players that we desperately need to get off the wagebill See also - Wimmer, Bauer, Etebo, N'Daiye, Afobe, Smith, Allen, Ince, Vokes Before anyone jumps down my throat I am in no way comparing Ryan to any of the above - he is and always will be a legend. However, his time has come and we really need to start saving wages.

He was visibly shattered and should have been subbed. Was culpable for the 3rd heavily. Backup now I’m afraid. He’ll know that himself. Just gonna ignore the fact Allen watched the ball slowly bounce and then near enough let the Leicester player skip away with the ball, yeah cool

Absolutely paying premier League wages to players who are completely finished is holding us back in terms of bringing better players into the club. It held us back in terms of what we were able to offer Duncan Watmore because we were so restricted in what we could offer due to other wage commitments. If the club offer any sort of deal to Shawcross in the summer then it proves that they have learned nothing since relegation.

Cheers for stating the obvious. Doesn't make it any easier for MON to turn the squad around though. If Shawcross was offered a deal (and I don't think he will be) it would be at a fraction of his current salary.....

I wouldn't mind giving a fit Shawcross a short extension, but certainly not more than a year and a maximum of £12K per week.

He played well up until about the 3rd goal and obviously tired due to lack of match fitness! Glad to have him back and once he is match fit he will be back to the first name on the team sheet and rightly so!
