I’m looking for a car around a 8 grand budget any recommends on second hand “luxury” cars had my eye on a few audis and mercs but I’m not sure on cost of repairs and such on models around 8 years old. Anyone got any experience or horror stories to put me off lol. At the moment though a top spec v60 Volvo is catching my eye so if anyone’s got good things tell me about them I’d be interested?

before xmas a van bumped my parked car . While it was in for repairs I was give a brand new Volvo Xc 60 4x4 as a replacement vehicle. Only 30 miles on the clock . I absolutely loved it . Fully loaded the tech stuff was amazing. I would buy one like a shot if I had the moola

Dacia Dusters are fantastic value for money and would be in your range for 2nd hand. We’ve had 2 from new for last 6 years and can’t fault them. Alternatively a 1.9 TDi Skoda Octavia are great work horses. Had the same one from 2006 to 2017 and never let me down . Still go for diesels every time.

For my workhorse I drive ford mondeo I've had 2 now over 9 years , touch wood have spent nothing on them outside of the usual maintenance. Both 2 L. diesel which are pretty bulletproof engines

There's none old enough yet to be in the £8k bracket but the KIA Stinger in another few years would be a great buy.
I'd imagine at around 6 years old they'll dip below £10k and would still have a years warranty left.
Spec on them is unreal too.

In fact, only a few grand more and you could get a brand new one. My brother-in-law has one and you can't fault it. Great spec for so little cash, relative to other cars. Obviously there is no "cred" with driving a Dacia, if that's what matters, but at the end of the day, it's just something that gets you around.

That means they get a lot of repeat business with the same customers, but those customers tend to love their cars so much they hold onto them for years before eventually coming back for a new model.

I can believe that , they've never really been on my radar before, i suppose they were bit stereotyped in my mind . The parking cameras are amazing on screen it looks like an overview taken from above everything in the immediate vicinity

Great sales pitch I got same blurb from Fiat dealership salesman . Only joking my dad had a Volvo for many years and loved it.

If you after a more luxury type car then look at a Jag. Reliability issues are over hyped and if they are regularly serviced they are sound. You can go for an Audi or BMW but then you have to accept you will have to start driving like a complete and utter selfish cock.

I’m looking at a M2 competition, lovely car but the one I have has sat in the garage for close on 12 months now.
The top end luxury car market is dead and with the latest lock down it’s catastrophic for the likes of BMW/Audi.
The 8k you have keep in your pocket for now as car wise cash is king and it’ll get better.
If there’s a car marked up at say 10k and it’s the one you want offer what you have if it’s not acceptable walk away, you’ll soon get a bargain.

Cracking motors mate I have owned two Landrovers before I bought the Mitsi they are no where near as reliable or practical, the garage I use locally the owner is a Landrover specialist and even he agrees as he had never worked on an Outlander before for £11k it's been a steal.

PI splashed out on a new car last year. Wondering if I wasn’t a bit impulsive as with this pandemic business its hardly been off the drive !
In six months I have only put fuel into it once. !! 🤔

Never had one but always wanted a Lexus - probably CT200h or 300h hybrid and very economical too I looked at them at one point, then realised I’d be incredibly bored driving something that slow. At that point you may as well save the money and get a Sandero, won’t be destroying the environment with one of those anytime soon.

I was a student in Birmingham in the early 80s and I always remember a conversation I had with one of the managers at Longbridge. He was saying then that the Germans would “love to get their hands on Jaguar and Rover”. I laughed, saying it could never happen.
