Great coats as long as you don’t mind the killing of wolves to make them 🤦♂️ Yep real animal fur, scummy brand and should be banned. I’ve got a Moncler, just as good if not better and around the same price bracket. When I was looking into buying a CG jacket I did some research. On their website at the time CG went into some detail as to why & how they use coyote fur. From memory, they only use it around the hood for a very specific purpose and at the time they had not found anything that was better. They were well aware of the concerns of some re. using real fur.

An Italian designer ski coat beats a Canadian coat designed for extreme winter conditions? $ for $ there is zero comparison. One is a fashion brand, the other was built to withstand Arctic conditions that became fashionable. Give your head a wobble. Granted CG is now selling some fashion product that is less extreme but i’d put Moncler with the Stone Island or Burberry version. Nice to walk around in but you’d freeze your tits off if you broke down on Hwy 1.

Hard wearing. And more likely nowadays for aesthetics.

CG is a brand that’s pretty ugly, straight cuts and, well ugly and nothing special to look at and if I wanted to keep warmer I’d bang a nice cashmere jumper on under my Moncler. In truth I’d go for fashion over CG everyday as their ranges look my old snorkel school jacket from decades ago. If it was really cold I’d stop in in truth 👍

Most winters the low on my outdoor thermometer in my garden in the Lake District reaches minus 12 and minus 20 is not all that uncommon in parts of Scotland. I was on Helvellyn summit 3 miles from home two years ago and the temperature was officially minus 20 (according to the fell top assessor who I happened to meet) - but the wind chill was actually minus 40!!!!!!! Minus 5 would feel like a sub tropical paradise on a day like that! I needed ski goggles to stop my eyelids freezing.

Humidity and wind are the biggest factors with cold. -20c in your neck of the woods would be a lot worse than -20c here in Calgary. We have zero humidity during the winter, -5c you don't need a coat on really. I remember when i first came here I came home for Xmas and went to a night game. It was -5c, wet and I was bloody freezing. After -20c your body can't really tell the difference, any exposed areas just start to freeze. -52c is the lowest i have been in and it was supposed to be 10c lower due to the wind. As Questionable says, on some days you just stay in

I've skied for nearly 60 years and I am well used to the low temperatures at Ski resorts but feeling much more comfortable than the same temperature would in the UK. When we flew to Calgary and skied at Banff/Lake Louise for 1 week and Panorama for the second week we felt positively warm thanks to the low humidity and had to keep checking the temperature to remind us how cold it actually was. Breckenridge in the USA was similar.

Those prices have gone up a bit since I looked maybe 4 years ago. From memory, Chilliwacks were about £550-600 when I looked. £650 for the special. I used W. Slack in Mansfield when searching for CG. They used to stock a good selection. I see they will no longer sell CG in 2021 so have a CG stock clearance sale on now.

GBP has been in the shitter for a couple of years even against our 3rd world currency. In Canada our price seems to go up about $100 a year on average.

In Kazakhstan in typical Winter temperatures of -15deg.C and sometimes as low as -30deg.C I found the following to be more than adequate for short exposures up to 30mins. North Face lightweight Resolve water proof jacket (£80) with hood North Face down jacket under the waterproof outer layer (£150) Cotton shirt (add a lightweight jumper if the wind chill is especially harsh) Long sleeved lycra base layer (£20) Two layers of gloves depending on temperature (often times only one pair needed) 1 lightweight insulated (£20) 1 heavier duty winter glove (£60) Face protection was one buff (£10) and one beanie (£10). Occasionally, a balaclava (£10). Not forgetting, the cycling leggings (£20) beneath your hiking trousers to stop your legs from turning blue. I didn't like jeans as I found them to be cold and they held the moisture. All of this stuff can be easily packed in your suitcase. I saw people wearing CG coats at the airport travelling back to Thailand. There really is no need to spend £900+ on a CG.
The fact that I wore my down jacket under my waterproof wind jacket meant that it was never exposed to the elements and will last forever. I just need to replace the waterproof outer layer every 10 years or so. The above stuff was plenty adequate for the Winters where I was in Kazakhstan. I spent the last 7 years in the city. Before that I spent 7 years at site where the conditions were more extreme (could get down to -50deg.C and regularly at -30deg.C). At site, you were exposed for longer periods and you would definitely need a CG or equivalent to keep you snug.
