He’s completely unproven mate. He’s got a manager here who’s demonstrated time and time again that he’s prepared to give youth a chance, but he won’t entertain TV. If it’s an attitude problem then I’ve got little to no sympathy. Personally, I think he flatters to deceive. A bit like a poor mans Peter Beagrie, lots of step overs and promise but very little end product. Peter Beagrie was nigh on single handedly responsible for me winning the league and cup double at work in the first year of the sun dream team, he was star man loads of times If that's the criteria...go to YT and watch the "videos" of Verlinden on FIFA.

I don't think there is any sanction for not renewing contracts and shipping off dead weight. If there is, damn the FFP then were done in either way. The problem is that much of our most expensive dead weight (Etebo, Bauer, Wimmer and Ince, for example) are still under contract for a year or so. Getting rid of any of them, unless someone buys them and pays them the wages we pay them, would be a big hit to FFP until those contracts enter their last year. Mate I think amortisation comes in to play here. Ince for example signed a 4 year deal in the summer of 2018 and cost 10 mil. For the purposes of FFP that's broken down to 2.5 mil a year so he's actually only worth 3.75 mil as far as FFP losses are concerned. So if we could get £4 mil for him we wouldn't actually lose anything and therefore would not fall foul of FFP. Wimmer signed a 5 year deal in 2017 for £15 mil so that's £3 mil a year so we need £4.5 mil at the moment so as not to make a loss. I think that's how it works anyway. So whilst we as a club have lost shit loads on these wasters the actual loss shown on the books for the purposes of profit and loss aren't as bad as they might seem and not such a massive hit to offload cheaply.

Successive managers have tried for several windows now and we're still stuck with players no one else wants. Easy, just sell that at the original price we paid in a deal with another club in FFP also that needs more of a "loss" for a break even. That is what most of the Turkish top teams are looking for. We always lower the wage to something minuscule in hopes of a quick offload and it isn't worth their time. So the bigger clubs bypass and the smaller clubs are afraid of why did Stoke lower his wages. This clubs financial and contract dealings are beyond comprehension at times but that is on the CEO.

We have Gregory and Chester who are out of contract soon next on the docket in June and if this summer they don't get poached before the deadline we need to get free transfer folks in and hit the kill switch on their contracts. We're far too kind in these situations of getting players out of the club and it is stifling the club's progress, window after window we are left with extra inventory of the previous manager's expensive unwanted toys. I feel this is going to be yet another bundling of useless player contracts and we will probably renew for another season.
Gregory and Chester are on a fraction of what we pay Ince, Etebo, Bauer and Wimmer = they are the deadweight which makes us risk problems under FFP. We need (until we get promoted) to bring in players who we will get cheaply and pay less to than the players we manage to get rid of.

Unless he has connections with Glasgow, you’d hope he would want to stay in England, but you could see the attraction in hopping onto the Stevie G bus.

Do we think the Old Firm are a more attractive prospect than us for a 20yo prospect?
Rangers are looking like a team on the up and Gerrard will be a superstar to players of his age - but the Scottish league is an absolute waste of space, isn't it?
Would wages be similar?

Yeah - just been thinking the same with Stevie G. But can't get over what a waste of time the SPL is - and those midweeks at Ross County aren't for everyone!

If Jack Byrne can go to Cyprus, Alfie D could easily go to Celtic or Rangers 😉

I was encouraged that MON mentioned Doughty by name in his press conference..I see he is aware of some of the players we've been linked with, some are obviously way off the mark by his comments.. I wonder which ones?.

I'm not convinced Celtic are much competition but I think Rangers are. However, in the long term is it worth going there? Mr Gerrard won't be there much longer you'd have to assume.

Any interest here or will the club not make a move until they move a few players on?

I hear your lot want our winger, Doughty. The guy is so so so fast, it is unreal.
From my Charlton supporting mate.

www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/alfie-doughty-gets-celtic-rangers-23287739Celtic and Rangers have both made pre-contract moves for Alfie Doughty. Charlton Athletic though have already accepted a £600,000 offer from Stoke City and another unnamed English Championship club to sell him in this window.Doughty, who is still a couple of weeks away from full fitness, is currently considering his future. Celtic have been long-term admirers of the left-sided midfielder who they believe can play as a defender.

Judging my MON's presser, he seemed quietly confident.
You wouldn't mention his name alongside another signing (Rabbi) if you weren't would you?

Yeah - just been thinking the same with Stevie G. But can't get over what a waste of time the SPL is - and those midweeks at Ross County aren't for everyone! He'll be speaking to Joe Aribo , ex Charlton, so if he goes to Rangers he'll know. European nights, 4 games v Celtic, some medals all quite an attraction to a young lad then off after 2 seasons.

He’d do better career wise at either club over us let’s not be daft here. Yes the standard isn’t too dissimilar but they are prestigious clubs in a top tier who can offer some European footie. We are a former prem club struggling to get into the playoffs with no real hope of promotion due to a lack of fit strikers. Sorry but that’s my take on it
