I think we need at least 3 front line wingers tbh. Campbell has over played this season, it shouldn't happen if you have the players you trust. He clearly doesn't trust Verlinden and that's fine, misguided but fine. So we need other players. But there's definitely room for them all as Verlinden can play either side equally well and use both feet equally well for crossing at least. I agree about needing 3 in the long run when Campbell is back but 2 is ok for now and importantly we really need a left back to allow them to flourish in a 442/433/4231 system. Therefore cover/replacement for Fox has to be the immediate priority and then the small matter of a regular goal scorer. Oh I agree but a left back looks as like as Lord Lucan riding in on Shergar at the moment?

Leif Davies from Leeds or Luke Thomas from Leicester would be two gettable Young loan options?

Leif Davies from Leeds or Luke Thomas from Leicester would be two gettable Young loan options? Luke Thomas isn't actually a bad shout. With Ricardo Perreira due back soon, they have an embarrassment of riches in the left back area with Justin & Castagne both equally as good on the left as they are on the righ and Fuchs is still on the books too.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/stoke-city-leicester-press-conference-4868909Any more plans to add in transfer market? You have been linked with several players, including Alfie DoughtyMON: We’ve been linked with a number of players, which is typical. I know you have to come up with some names and some of them have surprised me to be honest. We want to try to improve the squad. January is a difficult window to try to do that. We’re not in a position when we can spend the money that we would have spent in previous years in the Championship. We have to be very selective. Whether that’s Rabbi Matondo coming in on loan, a young player with massive potential, or the likes of an Alfie Doughty, those types of players, we’re looking to improve in certain areas of the pitch. We’d like to add a bit of youth to the squad, certainly a bit of pace to the squad if we can do that. But having said that, we still have a number of players in the building, we still have a relatively big squad. The window will be a day by day process but we hope we will do more than just Rabbi.

Can't see who said Verlinden was 'wank' just no chance of getting into a great current Belgian squad. Blatantly obvious. I know it's a confusing comment for some to grasp it seems. The Belgian coaches (not including Martinez who's a relative newcomer as national manager) have known about Verlinden's talent for several years, since even before he joined Stoke. The press have known about him too, such as the Guardian, and UEFA named him one of the top 10 "most likely" for a couple of years. Not every young talent turns into an adult football star, but every time Thibo has played for the international teams the Belgian commentators have been waxing lyrical about him. All the more despairing it's been that a) injuries have prevented him from adding to his progression b) the succession of Stoke managers have refused to play him beyond cameo subbing. Nonetheless Martinez and his coaches have had discussions about who they would like to add to an already spectacular squad of players in time for the EC and Verlinden's name has repeatedly come up. I know that's confusing for some to grasp it seems.

Maybe they are all wrong, but perhaps they are all right and he simply isn’t good enough. Verlinden would struggle to make a current Belgian C team. He’s absolutely miles off.

I'd like you to give concrete evidence as to why "Verlinden would struggle to make a current Belgian C team. He’s absolutely miles off." Give a list of games where he has shown himself to be of that standard.

Going to stick my big nose in here talent wise he's deffo good enough, in fact I would suggest he's our most talented attacking player full stop I strongly doubt that O'Neill can't see his talent after his injury would also suggest it's fair to see he's now fit, ready to play been suggested to me that's he's been a bit of an arse in raining for a long time now which is massively disappointing if correct, if it is correct then the manager is also correct in not playing him Given a succession of managers haven't played him, or barely, that might be an indicator. As for Belgium national side, although they are the number one ranked side in the world they still have a smaller pool of players than larger countries as such it's not daft to suggest if Verlinden gets his shit together he could get #full caps to go along with his younger age group caps. If he doesn't get his act together he'll end up like Ngoy playing for a minor club in a minor league.

I think in one of the countless threads on here, ostensibly on other people or themes, but somehow all getting round to the boy, it was suggested that the reason MON doesn't select TV has nothing to do with football reasons. We will probably never find out what has happened betweeen them, perhaps the manager in his own quasi fatherly way reached out to the player but the reaction was different to what he expected, and then he set demands and standards which weren't met. That's just one interpretation, quite likely it's nothing remotely like that, but we may have to wait until MON or TV write their autobiographies in 15-20 years, before finding out. Or better still: we will never find out, because I happen to like both of them, so I could do without reading any dirty laundry.

Where has Roberto Martinez ever said that he wants to include him in his squad? Please add a link because my search hasn’t found anything.

If he doesn't get his act together he'll end up like Ngoy playing for a minor club in a minor league. In a funny old way, I think most of those managers, Hughes and O'Neill especially, were trying to help in being careful about playing Thibo. They wanted to protect him, especially because he's had serious injuries and was possibly not built for the dirty English game. So they wanted to "ease him in". But very few players, and especially not a potential world beater, enjoy being over protected and eased in, as if they were incapable of taking care of themselves. If you go back a few years, Thibo was being mentored by none other than Marco Arnautovic. At the time a perfect "pair", in retrospect maybe TV picked up more than just brilliant tricks, he may also have learned something about pride and attitude. Imagine being Arnie's manager when he was a kid, I didn't know about him then, but I'm virtually certain that he was a lot more trouble than Thibo's ever been. So what would have happened if MON had been Arnie's manager. Would he have stopped him from playing? And how many Stokies would have thought that was the way to go about it? I don't think Verlinden would be selected in the Belgium TEAM to play in the final, should they go so far. He would be an impact sub at most - Hazard, if even fit, usually walks off with 10 mins to go. But he would likely be seen as an important SQUAD member, because national managers like to have different options they can throw upon an unsuspecting and tired defence in the dying minutes of a game. A role which you would have thought he could at the very least have played for scfc. The lord knows there have been a few occasions lately when we needed exactly that.

Personally, I think he flatters to deceive. A bit like a poor mans Peter Beagrie, lots of step overs and promise but very little end product.

If unloading at all costs means we break FFP rules then the sanction could easily mean we might get enough points to make the playoffs only to be bumped down to mid table - or worse, we could be in mid table and get bumped down to the relegation places. We'd be seriously stupid to risk that happening when another year will probably mean that we'll be in the clear as far as FFP is concerned.

Given that we are chronically short of any quality at all in the final third, it’s strange that he’s not had a run in the side even if it is true that his attitude is questionable. When it comes to TV, I’ll believe the hype when I see him perform to a high level in the Championship. Until then, it’s just opinions and bluster I’m afraid.

The problem is that much of our most expensive dead weight (Etebo, Bauer, Wimmer and Ince, for example) are still under contract for a year or so. Getting rid of any of them, unless someone buys them and pays them the wages we pay them, would be a big hit to FFP until those contracts enter their last year.

Injuries to our strikers has cost us a serious amount of points already this season. Had Campbell and Fletcher stayed fit we would have been challenging the top two by now.
The Vokes missed penalty stopped us going top. I believe we have won one game since and scored how many goals (2 or 3?). It coincided with Campbell’s injury.
Let MON get in the strikers he wants because I believe with our midfield and defence no other team will acquire more points than us in the second half of the season.

We have Gregory and Chester who are out of contract soon next on the docket in June and if this summer they don't get poached before the deadline we need to get free transfer folks in and hit the kill switch on their contracts. We're far too kind in these situations of getting players out of the club and it is stifling the club's progress, window after window we are left with extra inventory of the previous manager's expensive unwanted toys. I feel this is going to be yet another bundling of useless player contracts and we will probably renew for another season.

He’s completely unproven mate. He’s got a manager here who’s demonstrated time and time again that he’s prepared to give youth a chance, but he won’t entertain TV. If it’s an attitude problem then I’ve got little to no sympathy. Personally, I think he flatters to deceive. A bit like a poor mans Peter Beagrie, lots of step overs and promise but very little end product. Peter Beagrie was nigh on single handedly responsible for me winning the league and cup double at work in the first year of the sun dream team, he was star man loads of times

Surely you haven't forgotten the problems the club faces with FFP. I don't think there is any sanction for not renewing contracts and shipping off dead weight. If there is, damn the FFP then were done in either way. Just how do you plan to "ship off dead weight". Successive managers have tried for several windows now and we're still stuck with players no one else wants.
